When I’m thinking about my favorite RPG games, I tend to wonder which adventures I’d be able to get through. We all do it; after all, if Cloud can get his spikey-haired, sassy, brooding self to the end of an adventure against someone with the most luscious hair around, we must be able to do the same.
Obviously, we aren’t all going to be able to take down Sephiroth, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be able to complete some RPGs for some surprising reasons. We may all be average people, but we can handle some above-average challenges when the stars all align.
10Final Fantasy 4
Final Fantasy 4might have a bizarre story that ends up taking its characters to the moon, of all places, but I still think the average person would be fine. If the funny little emo-wet-noodle of a character that is Cecil can make it through, so can all of us.
Let’s be real; there areso many fake-out deathsin this game that you wouldn’t even need to be worried about impending death, you’d just wake up somewhere else after seemingly dying. We’d all just luck our way to the end and become the greatest hero around, even if being a spoony bard sounds like a lot more fun.
9The Witcher 3
Let’s be honest here, as long as you’re capable of some smooth-talking, you could handle the adventure of Geralt inThe Witcher 3. Sure, you might need to make a few decisions that wouldn’t exactly land you in the dad-of-the-year category, but you’d be able to find Ciri and keep her safe.
Geralt’s whole adventure to find Ciri is more or less just a series of going to a place, finding information, and going to another place. If you avoid danger, you’d be fine, and then when it comes to the Wild Hunt, there’d be more than enough people interested in seeingCiri and her many memorable quotessafe that you probably wouldn’t even need to lift a witchy little finger.
8Yakuza: Like A Dragon
Considering the whole point ofYakuza: Like A Dragonis that a bunch of ordinary rejects of society can band together to do something no one would think is possible, yeah, anyone could go on this adventure.
Trust me, I love Kasuga as much as the next person, but he’s far from anything special. He’s certainly a unique thinker, but Kasuga and the gang are just ordinary people wrapped up in a twisted narrative, and realistically, that could happen to you tomorrow – probably not, but it could!
7Persona 4 Golden
I’ve always been of the opinion that if a group of characters like those in Scooby-Doo can solve mysteries, then so could I, and that opinion is absolutely no different for the high schoolers inPersona 4. They are a bright bunch with Personas for battle, but if you can run fast and be persuasive, who needs Personas?
There are some tricky things to think about, like the fact that you can come into contact with a god, but my personal time management skills aren’t incredible, soI’ll just avoid Marie altogether.
6Kingdom Hearts 2
As long as you’re able to harness the power of friendship, everything is going to be fine inKingdom Hearts 2. You’ve always got a magical little duck in Donald and a defensive and odd laugher in Goofy, and honestly, who needs anything else?
Depending on the world you head to, you can have some powerful allies around to do your dirty work as well, so being along for the ride and enjoying all the fun little Disney worlds is basically a perk of the job here. It’s like your own personal Disney World except without the lines and over-priced everything.
5Valkyria Chronicles 4
Look, war is never the kind of thing that anyone should want to engage in, but sometimes it just happens. In the case ofValkyria Chronicles, if all you’ve got to do is act as a military commander, I’m going to go ahead and say that anyone could do that to mixed results.
As long as you may think tactically, you should be able to get through any of the series’ adventures. It might be a bit trickier to man a tank, but I’m sure it could be figured out with enough practice and enough command points.
4Super Mario RPG
I don’t even know if this is a controversial opinion, but I think the average person could get through most ofMario’sadventures. Of all the other RPG adventures mentioned thus far, this one kind of just seems like a fun thing to do.
I may not be able torock a mustache the way that Mario does, but what I can do is jump pretty well. Smithy might look like a royal pain in the butt, but with enough planning, I think every aspect of this game could be handled, all while humming along to that stellar soundtrack.
3Undertale
As long as we all exercise a little bit of restraint, everyone should be able to make it throughUndertalewith no issues. We may not get to experience Megalovania, but in the same breath, we don’t need to be immediately bopped by a skeleton filled with horrible puns.
Considering every single creature can be reasoned with in some way, it would probably be fun to give it a try. You’d all have to not give in to those murderous impulses, but I’m going to go ahead and hope that anyone reading this doesn’t have those in the first place and move on.
2Stardew Valley
I mean, come on,it’s just farming. That’s not to say that farming isn’t easily one of the toughest and most important jobs to have, but at the end of the day, it is an RPG in which you are leading a relatively ordinary life with a few twists.
Being forced into an adventure inStardew Valleymight just be the world’s greatest vacation for some of us. Oh no, how awful, a life filled with delicious homegrown food, exploring caves, meeting locals, and maybe even falling in love? Tragic.
1Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
Insert anyPokemongame into this slot because obviously, everyone would not only think they could do it, but probably everyone would jump at the chance as well. Getting to have your own group of Pokemon to bond with on an adventure to be the best in the region is a dream people have had since 1996.
It might be a bit annoying that most people you come across are ready to jump into a battle with you at the drop of a hat, but that’s cool; you’re able to just grind out a level 99 Skeledirge to demolish anyone who dares look at you wrong.
