Risk of Rain 2puts you in an endless wave after wave of increasingly deadly enemies in Simulacrum that will test your ability to choose important items by wave 30. The first step to surviving at least to wave 50 is choosing the Survivor that will take you there.

Although with enough practice and experience, you could take any Survivor to wave 100 if you were patient enough, others are more likely to ensure you aren’t pulling out your hair after each failed wave. Some of these Survivors even seem built for this mode, taking advantage of the small arena and grouping enemies exceptionally well.

8Rex

Rex is one of the best survivors if you want to survive as long as possible, especially in the early waves of harder difficulties. Out of all the Survivors, Rex has the highest healing potential from abilities alone, which will save you from going to zero in crucial moments.

For abilities, you will want to swap Seed Barrage for DIRECTIVE: Drill, as it doesn’t hurt Rex to cast and has more potential to trigger on-hit effects. Rex’s Tangling Growth special skill is especially useful for Simulacrum as the tight space and abundance of enemies can easily entangle multiple enemies and heal you simultaneously.

7Huntress

Huntress has the best skills for when you want to turn your brain off and use her auto-targeting attacks, simply pointing and clicking at the horde of enemies inside the dome. Her Laser Glaive ability is especially useful as it will likely always hit all six targets, especially in later waves.

Although due to her primary attacks only firing at locked enemies within range, you’ll want to focus on your positioning and stick close to enemies you want to eliminate first or when closing the distance from further enemies. Although Huntress benefits from items that require you todeal heavy damageas all of her attacks are strong.

6Void Fiend

Ironically, to unlock Void Fiend, you will need to reach wave 50 on Simulacrum, but with him available, you can get much farther due to his unique abilities. Although unable to unlock additional skills, his Corruption passive allows you to quickly dispatch enemies every wave.

Void Fiend can also sacrifice some of his Corruption build-up to heal, but you will want to ensure you balance it correctly, as his alternate form may be what saves you rather than the quarter-health healing. Also, with his mobility, you may focus on building damaged items rather than movement ones like Paul’s Goat Hoof.

5MUL-T

MUL-T has some of the strongest potential to build dangerous combos that allow you to go extremely far in waves, as long as you don’tignore his healingand protection needs. Also, his starting abilities are his strongest set for SImulacrum, meaning you won’t have to grind challenges until unlocked.

One of the most important MUL-T abilities is his primary Auto-Nailgun, as it has the fastest attack rate in the game and is perfect for triggering on-hit items like Sticky Bomb and Tri-Tip Dagger, quickly building up stacks of effects and damage.

4Commando

Despite being the starting character with basic abilities, Commando has the most open-ended design for when you have a particular build in mind. Also, like MUL-T, he has an impressive rate of fire and even a deadly special ability that can all reliably trigger on-hit items.

Commando’s main problem, however, is his weak utility ability, which won’t always save you from danger, but if you use it wisely or happen to find a Hardlight Afterburner, then it shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Just ensure you keep enemies in mid-range to get the most out of his damage.

3Engineer

Engineer is surprisingly strongin Simulacrum, as his turrets are especially useful in the tight environment around the Focus, allowing you to stay relatively safe in early rounds, allowing you to farm the necessary items for his build.

Additionally, his Bubble Shield utility skill can save you from waves that throw handfuls of ranged enemies, allowing you to rely on your turrets to pick them off while you heal. Although, with his slow primary attack, you will want to focus on building attack speed items like Soldier’s Syringe and Mocha.

2Acrid

Like Rex, Acrid also has a built-in healing ability that helps him stay alive long enough in early waves to build the best items. Also, despite being primarily a melee distance Survivor, his other skills make up for it with impressive range and effects that auto-target nearby enemies.

If you haven’t attained it yet, try to unlock his Blight passive ability, as it is a direct upgrade from his starting passive and will make sure you eliminate enemies faster. Just make sure you don’t combine it with Frenzied Leap, or you will lose a poison source.

1Bandit

One of the more complicated Survivors, Bandit focuses on attacks behind enemies for critical strikes. This might be difficult in a single player Simulacrum run, but his Smoke Bomb utility allows you to both survive dangerous waves while triggering critical hits and recharging skills in safety.

His special skill, Lights Out, is also especially strong as it resets all of his skill cooldowns, giving you an advantage on waves that spawn endless amounts of enemies, allowing you to continuously use Smoke Bomb, Serrated Dagger, and reload all four shots of Burst, as long as you don’t miss the revolver shot.
