Baldur’s Gate 3presents a sprawling, detailed world to explore - you can spend hours searching your surroundings and still end up finding new and exciting things to amaze you. A particularly interesting detail is found in the first act - the Hag.

Auntie Ethel, otherwise known as the Hag who resides in the teahouse to the west of the Emerald Grove, has an interesting living arrangement. A house that gives way to a cave system and a secondary lair, there are some interesting concoctions to be found at the end.

All Of Auntie Ethel’s Hag Potion Effects

After dealing with Auntie Ethel and progressing into her Hag lair at the very end of her domain, you’ll be presented with a room full of goodies. Along with the more obvious rewards, such as the Bitter Divorce wand and the Staff of Crones, there’s a whole slew of oddly-named potions.

These potions all have unique effects, many of them entirely negative. The table below details the potions.

Effect

A Mother’s Loathing

Grants the drinker the Bite ability, which deals 2d4 piercing damage to a target in melee range. Upon a long rest, this ability is lost.

Broken Promises

Grants the drinker +2 Strength. After a long rest, this boost is replaced by a -1 to Strength.

Butterflies in the Stomach

The drinker becomes Haemorrhaged and takes 1d6 piercing damage per turn for four turns. The drinker is also frightened for the duration.

Faltering Will

Gives the drinker disadvantage on Wisdom saving throws until they next take a Long Rest.

Heart of Stone

Gives the drinker resistance to poison damage until they next take a Long Rest.

Insanity’s Kiss

The drinker becomes Insane for four turns. You will be unable to control them, and they will attack indiscriminately.

Lost Time

The drinker suffers -2 to their Armour Class and loses their Reaction for 50 turns.

Lover’s Avarice

Gives the drinker -1 to Wisdom until they next take a Long Rest.

Missing Pets

Wilted Dreams

Unlike many of the potions in the game, you cannot throw these at enemiesto give them the negative effects.

As so many of these potions have no use other than to experiment with, they are really not that useful to pick up - they don’t even sell for much gold. The only ones that may provide any semblance of usefulness are theHeart of Stone, Broken Promises, and A Mother’s Loathingpotions, and those are situational at best.

How To Remove Curses

Some of the potions listed above have effects that are considered ‘Curses’. Sometimes they can be removed by taking a Long Rest, but otherwise can be removed with theRemove Cursespell. This can be learned byClerics, Paladins, Wizards, and Warlocksand is a Level 3 spell.
