Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s release date has changed, but for once, it’s not a delay. Instead, the latest Assassin’s Creed instalment will be with us a week earlier than intended, launching on October 5.

WhileUbisofthasn’t given us a reason, this is likely to avoid clashing with other big releases in October.Marvel’s Spider-Man 2,Alan Wake 2,Super Mario Bros. Wonder,Forza Motorsportand more are launching later in the month, so this change of release date allows Mirage to get ahead of the queue - and gives players some time to beat it before other games take up their time.

This comes as it’s announced that Assassin’s Creed Mirage has also gone gold, meaning Ubisoft has its release build ready to go. Of course, the next few weeks will be spent getting patches ready, so hopefully, the game isn’t compromised by launching earlier than intended

Even ignoring the packed gaming schedule, it isn’t too surprising to hear that Mirage is in a position where it can be pulled forward like this. Devs have been increasingly transparent about the game recently, sharing a bunch more details on what players can expect. To put a long story short, Mirage seems to be a much more stripped-back approach, going back to basics rather than taking up hours of your time like later, open-world instalments.

In fact, its main story is a little on the shorter side - something the devs have referenced as something of a selling point. They’ve suggested thatit will take around 20 hours to beatif you’re not doing all of the side content, comparing its length to the first few games in the series. This is quite a departure from the likes of Valhalla and Origins - but probably a welcome one for those of us hoping to cram a few games in this October.

It remains to be seen if this toned-down approach appeals to fans of the series. True enough, many have complained that recent games have been too bloated, but we’ll have to see if fans vote with their wallets for more games like Mirage. And even if they don’t feel that Mirage is enough to keep them busy, there are more than enough Assassin’s Creed games in development right now, so Ubisoft will be onto the next thing soon enough. Hopefully, withoutthe alleged crunch that the Just Dance team has recently complained of.
