Baldur’s Gate 3is such a massive game that you’re basically guaranteed two things. There’s almost definitely stuff people haven’t experienced yet despite its popularity, and there are also bugs the team atLarianhasn’t fixed yet. It’s particularly fun when those two categories crossover. When something weird happens and players can’t decide whether they’ve stumbled on an exciting new feature or an amusing bug. Like when your cat gets arrested for killing a rat.
Cats killing rats is normal, even in Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s in their nature. However, it seems one guard is unaware of that, or simply has a grudge against this particular feline.Jasondads1shared evidence of their incarcerated cat on theBaldur’s Gate 3 subreddit. “I decided to get my cat to kill a rat. Apparently a guard saw this and determined it to be reprehensible,” they explained.
“The games says that the guard witnessed murder in broad daylight and wanted a bribe of ~300 gold.” If the player’s word isn’t enough for you, they’ve attached a screenshot proving their cat has indeed been locked up. Some players have sided with the guard, pointing out the pet might actually be a shapeshifting druid. Then again, if that’s true, is it really murder when the victim is a rat? Clearly this particular guard is an animal lover. Or maybe just a rat lover since he has no qualms about locking a cat in a cell.
Evidence that non-human characters can be arrested is either a new bug or a fresh feature doesn’t stop at cats.Nuttmegganarchistshared a similar experience on the same subreddit, although the crime in question was far more heinous. “Through a series of events that were of no fault of his own my elemental causes a massive explosion that killed 40 plus NPCs,” they wrote. “The guards then confronted my elemental and caused a speech check to happen which he failed.” I mean, it’s literally just fire in the form of a person, I’m not surprised it failed a speech check. I’m also not convinced the walls of that cell can contain it for long.
The owner of the incarcerated elemental added that they’re playing onPS5and have the latest update applied, so that likely means this is indeed a bug and not a feature. If it were a feature it would have probably been listed in the latest patch notes. Add it to the list of amusing bugsheadlined by the game’s characters being too randyfor the game’s first month. Yes, sorry to burst your in-game confidence bubble, but everyone you crossed paths with wanting to have sex with you wasn’t actually supposed to happen.
