But the popular ship right now isAstarionand Karlach. Sorry, Shadowheart.
Roach Spice shared a clip on Twitter of Astarion and Karlach having an infernal heart-to-heart at camp. Origin characters don’t get scenes like this, but because they’re playing as Astarion, they can make it a reality, complete with unique dialogue options. “To be here with you, in the city I love, in this world that I love so much… It’s all I could really ask for,” Karlach says to Astarion as they hold hands. “You’reall I could ever ask for. I love you.”
Of course, fans adored this interaction, especially amidst a wave of Karlach x Astarion shipping.
“Astarion & Karlach have the sweetest romance,” @yukidogzombie quote retweeted.
“I’m just going to ugly cry in the corner, don’t mind me,” @sylvivalyi replied. “Karlach is too good for all of us.”
In this scene, Roach Spice also sets boundaries between the two, telling Karlach that they won’t sleep together once they go upstairs.
She respects their wishes, just wanting to be with Astarion. It’s a sweet moment, one that sparked another tweet that the Baldur’s Gate community rallied behind.
“To be honest, it doesn’t matter to me if Astarion/Karlach is platonic or romantic,” Roach Spice said. “Their relationship works really well either way and on both origins, you can play through the whole romance without sleeping together at all”.
It also sparked fan art and plenty of screenshots from others who dipped their toes into the romance.
“One path of Karlach’s romance scene on the Astarion origin playthrough is the most cute shit ever and I had to reference it,” Quel said of a scene influencing their art which is embedded above.
They even have cute pet names for each other. If you meet KarlachbeforeAstarion, she’ll call him “fancy boy” when he pins you down, while he calls her… “fire girl”. That high charisma is really showing.
Platonic, romantic, wherever you land, these two have chemistry.
