Short Tavs, rejoice - we can finally get in on the kissing action. Thanks toBaldur’s Gate 3’s first major patch, romance partners will finally squat down to kiss shorter races like dwarfs and halflings. We will no longer be forced to kiss their belly buttons while they awkwardly look on, removing one of the funniest oversights in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Patch one addresses over 1,000 bugs like this, from making quests finish correctly, to fixing strange bugs with your companions. One of which saw Lae’zel “floating up and down” while you tried to woo her, which is a little off-putting them she’s already very intimidating. Most bizarrely though, the patch notes mention fixes forBaldur’s Gate’s mostly blocked-off Upper City, but there’s still no word on when it will become fully accessible.

First things first though, kissing.Larian Studiosvery much knew what it was doing here, sharing a GIF of Karlach squatting down to smooch her small partner. So no more belly kisses, which I will kind of miss. Check out the full patch noteshere.

There are far too many changes to go over here, but for the most part, you shouldn’t notice many of them. Lots of the fixes centre around simply ensuring our companions are behaving correctly and quests are playing out as intended. Given all the options there are in Baldur’s Gate 3, sometimes the game gets muddled with what conversations we’ve already had or what options we chose in a quest. Hopefully, these are mostly addressed now.

What is curious though is how the “Upper City” is mentioned twice in these patch notes. While we do go here at some point in the game, it’s not the fully explorable area we were promised prior to launch. Sadly, this patch gives us no idea of when or even if it’s coming back. Presumably, it will be, as some players have reported that they’re unable to complete certain quests without being able to go to this area. Karlach’s romance path is said to be particularly affected, so hopefully this can be addressed soon.

It will come as a relief though that there are some fixes for the third act, which many have described as the buggiest by far. Quests have been improved here, as have some character AI issues. While not explicitly mentioned, hopefully the performance in Baldur’s Gate is better too, because that can be a real mess in the city.

We can expect many more updates like this, and not just because Baldur’s Gate 3 certainly has some areas in which the performance could do with improvement. Earlier this week, fans datamined a bunch of cut content, some of which was removed very last minute. Fingers crossed, some of this will make it back into the game. Please, Larian, I just want to romance Jaheria.
