Speaking of which, you should go through some important points to make the most of your runs and help you defeat more bosses. Doing so will allow you to increase your ratings, see what the game offers, and complete more runs to unlock characters.

How To Unlock Characters

At the start of the game, you’ll only have access toHibiki. He’s a solid character with good speed and a decent special, but don’t make the mistake of playing as the same character repeatedly. Sure, you’ll get used to their play style, but you’ll miss out on Legacy Skills, which will be a major difference in your playthroughs.

In essence, as you play through with different characters, you can use their different abilities. On top of that, you’llgain access to more buffs as you perform better with characters. For instance, if youscore at least 300 points in a run with Ragna, you’ll have two benefits to help you through the run. You can equip up to two characters at a time, so take advantage of that during your run.

With that in mind, you’ll want to keep switching up your characters, improving them and allowing you to make it further into runs. Do your best tounlock two more characters as quickly as possible, so you can fully enjoy the benefits. From there, keep rotating between characters until you unlock the next tier with them, giving you more options to empower your characters.

Speaking of which, you may also rotate through the different tactics the game offers, allowing you to see how they work. Not only will this help you discover new builds and see what synergizes well with your character, but you can unlock more benefits by doing it.

Dashing Is Your Best Friend

No matter what character you play, dashing will be your best friend. Not only can you use this to reposition yourself, buttake advantage of the invincibility frames to avoid damage and attacks. You have a second or so of a cooldown between dashes, so don’t spam them, or you’ll end up taking a hit.

On top of that, you can use your dash to getpast certain enemies entirely. You can dash while on the ground or in the air, allowing you to attack one enemy and then dash to another, striking them as well in one fluid motion.

It’s also an excellent way tostall yourself in the air if there’s a trap activated. Some of them will emit fire or poison on the ground for a while. You can jump to avoid the trap, perform an attack, and then dodge to prolong your airtime.

Utilize Air Attacks When Possible

Even though you can’t combo into them, air attacks are powerful moves in your arsenal. On top of that, you can use them to quickly fall back to the ground if you get an augment for them, making them effective moves to use in multiple situations.

For example, Mai can get an upgrade that allows her to stab the spear into the ground, dealing damage to enemies around her while knocking them into the air. Otherwise, she has a move that hits around her, dealing a good amount of damage with minimal risk.

Get a feel for how characters perform in the air, as that’ll be a major factor in how well they perform. Since they’re safe attacks with relatively low lag, theywork great for poking. However, air attacks won’t deal as much damage as grounded attacks, so keep that in mind if you find yourself low on time.

Beware Anything That Glows Red

No matter what you see glowing red, you’ll want to avoid it while playing this game.Red indicates that the enemy plans to launch an attack in that spot, so you should either move out of the way or prepare a dodge.

For instance, one enemy will charge a laser, point at you, and then launch the attack, so jump up to avoid it. The same applies to red sections that’ll appear on the ground, so run to another area to avoid damage.

However, red isn’t the only color that mattersin terms of avoiding damage. The red simply lets you know it’ll always deal damage while giving you a warning. For instance, you have a purple orb that can fall from the sky. When it lands, it’ll deal poison damage and leave poison on the spot, so you’ll take damage if you stand in it.

As a general rule, ensure you watch enemies and look for their attacks. You’ll notice that quite a few of themgive you an indication before they perform a move, so you can react accordingly.

Go With AoE Upgrades When Possible

Area of Effect (AoE) upgrades are the best that you may go with. Sure, you can grab ones that’ll increase your damage and apply status ailments, but you can only hit so many enemies at once.If you want to maximize your damage, you’ll need to strike as many enemies as possiblewith your specials.

you may get certain moves, such as fire shooting out from where you used your skill. Such an ability will help you tomaximize your damage while hitting more enemies near you, making those segments where you must fight waves of enemies more manageable. This synergizes well with AoE skills, such as Hibiki’s move.

Even though AoEs don’t seem like they would be useful against bosses,it’ll be easier to land attacks on them. Since you won’t need to aim as much and just need to have yourself close to them to deal damage, you can prioritize dodging and positioning yourself while maintaining a consistent damage output to get through the battle.

Prioritize Mind Upgrades

As you play through the game, you’ll have access to the Mind Upgrades. As soon as you finish a round, you shouldimmediately visit the robot right before the entrance to start runs. If you talk with him, you can spend your points to give you new upgrades, helping you to go through rounds.

For instance, you have one upgrade that allows you torevive once when you run out of health. You then restore 30 percent of your health, allowing you to continue the round while getting a second chance. You have other valuable upgrades, such as getting an extra HP Siphon, so you can restore your health and increase your odds of getting farther.

On top of that, you only start with the first phase of rewards. If you unlock six of them in the first tier, you’ll get the next one. This applies all the way up to the fourth phase, which has the best upgrades. With that in mind, you’ll have additional bonuses that’ll help you get farther in the game while also relying on your skill as you improve, making it crucial to put as many points into it as possible.
