Summary
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s expansive world means there’s room for almost endless creativity, particularly when it comes to using Zonai devices and technology. You can either play the game traditionally, or think outside the box when it comes to your strategy and how to experience the wonders of Hyrule.
If you want to try a different approach to your playthrough of the game, you could have a go at one of these ideas to get a fresh perspective when it comes to combat, find new ways to entertain yourself in Hyrule, or make Link the style icon we all know he is.

These alternative playstyles were chosen to offer a fresh perspective on combat, entertainment, and role-playing within the game
8All Style, No Substance
Embrace Fashion Over Function
Tears of the Kingdom haslots of armor setsto dress Link up in. In a typical playthrough, you would prioritize the benefits of an armor set, such as it protecting you from weather conditions or giving you an attack boost, but the stylishness of these outfits is hard to deny.
Rather than selecting Link’s outfit based on stat boosts and benefits, you could choose them purely on aesthetic and how well Link suits them. For example, the Frostbite armor set is only helpful when you’re fighting in cold areas, but why restrict yourself? Link deserves to look great wherever he is.

7Only Attack With Zonai Devices
Revolutionize Your Gameplay
Zonai devices are one of the best additions to Tears of the Kingdom - using them can help you traverse long distances or attack groups of enemies that would otherwise be difficult to take down. Sometimes, Zonai devices can be even more useful than regular weapons.
So, why not ditch those regular weapons altogether? You could create automatic weapons that attack monsters for you, so you barely have to lift a finger. The Beam Emitter is a great choice for this, blasting monsters with great ease.

6Make Link A Gourmet Chef
A Culinary Adventure
Tears of the Kingdom’snew recipe bookallows Link to record every recipe he discovers, as if he were a budding chef. Why not lean into this, and only have Link cook the absolute best recipes? No moreDubious Foodhere, no thank you.
Link deserves a full three-course meal ofSnail Chowder,Crab Risotto, andCheesecaketo keep up his energy while fighting Ganondorf’s forces. It’s not just beneficial for Link’s happiness, as these higher quality meals will also reward more stat buffs. Win-win.

5Pretend You’re A Different Link
Nostalgic Gaming Experience
Throughout Hyrule, you can discover various items and armor sets from the series’ past. If you want to relive some of the games’ previous adventures, you could dress Link in one of the legacy armor sets, such as the ones referencingOcarina of TimeorTwilight Princess, and only use weapons associated with that hero.
Link can even take on the appearance ofthe cartoony hero in the Link’s Awakening remake, which would certainly make for a comedic playthough, especially when you see Link in a serious cutscene.

4Go For The Silliest Fuse Combinations
Fuse Items in Unusual Ways
In Tears of the Kingdom, there are lots of options when it comes to fuse combinations. You can either fuse helpful items to your weapons, shields, and arrows, such as valuable monster parts, or try out some of the game’s sillier items.
Head over to Tarrey Town and find one of the President Hudson cardboard cutouts. you may fuse it to your shield, creating your very own President Hudson Shield. It’s a nice way to repay Hudson with some free advertising all around Hyrule. Addison is sure to love it, too.

3Mess With Koroks
Let Your Imagination Run Wild
If gathering all 1,000 Korok seeds has you resenting the Koroks, you may channel that anger by using Zonai devices to annoy them or make them wish they never met Link in the first place. You could attach a rocket to an unsuspecting Korok looking for their friend to shoot them all the way across Hyrule.
Or, you could simply use Ultrahand to throw them wherever you please. Their backpacks will give them a soft landing, anyway. There are plenty of ways to have fun with Koroks; well, you’re the one having fun…

2Pretend You’re In The Yiga Clan
A Double-Agent Adventure
By visiting the various Yiga Clan bases across Hyrule, you can find the Yiga armor set, which makes Link look exactly like a member of the clan - except for the give-away blonde ponytail. With this set, Link can blend in with the Yiga Clan and even pretend to join their ranks.
To fully assimilate, you’ll want to only eatMighty Bananas, use Yiga-specific weapons, and learn the Earthwake technique. Though, the rest of Hyrule’s citizens won’t take so kindly to this, and they’ll chastise Link for wearing the armor set. If you can stomach being on the side of the enemy, it can be an entertaining change of pace.

1Skateboard Around Hyrule
Shredding It Up
Shield surfing was a popular mechanic inBreath of the Wild, and Tears of the Kingdom builds on this idea with many more ways to perform similar tricks. Fuse a mine cart to your shield, and you’ve got yourself a fine skateboard to ride around Hyrule in style.
It works best when going down hilly areas, just like regular shield surfing, or hopping onto the rails on the Sky Islands or in Shrines. Link can live out his skater-boy dreams as he tries to save Hyrule once again.
