Summary

Since it launched in 2007, Poptropica has been a staple of many people’s childhood, in the same way that Disney movies and chocolate chip cookies are. And even as those people have grown up, there’s still something so endearing about returning to the many islands of Poptropica to relive past favourites and enjoy some new experiences.

Playing through a Poptropica island is like watching an excellent Saturday morning cartoon. They’re adventurous, they’re engaging, and they’ll probably teach you a thing or two about the world around you. More than anything, these islands give off that same warm, fuzzy feeling you get when returning to your childhood home.

8Reality TV Island

Poptropica islands have never been afraid to shake up their structure to match the feel of their particular theme. A great example of this is Reality TV Island, which has a strong resemblance to Survivor.

To win Reality TV Island, you have to compete against seven other contestants–some of whom are returning characters from other islands (good to see you again, Betty Jetty). But what really makes this island memorable are the minigames themselves. These bite-sized challenges are always a thrill and really gives you that sense of progressing through an elimination-style reality show.

7Arabian Nights Island

Some more recent Poptropica islands have opted to split their stories into multiple chapters, with Arabian Nights Island being the best example of this style to date. If you’ve ever dreamed about playing through an Aladdin-style adventure, then this island has all the desert-trekking, genie-wishing, forty-thieves-catching goodness you could ask for.

However, this is Poptropica after all, so there are still plenty of twists and surprises along the journey that make this story stand on its own merits. Each of the three chapters are all expertly well-paced, making it difficult to walk away from this island once you dive in.

6Counterfeit Island

The best Poptropica islands teach you about a certain topic by immersing you in an utterly intriguing story and world. Counterfeit Island succeeds in this by introducing young players to the world of art via a crime story that is completely gripping from start to end.

The depth of Counterfeit Island’s plot takes you on a wild ride, through shady tunnels, renowned art galleries, and even to an entirely different Poptropica island. Through it all, you’ll be wondering who to trust, who to suspect, and if these great works of art will ever be returned to their rightful place.

Super villains have escaped and are causing chaos all over the island, and the only one who can stop them is you. Super Power Island lets you live out that childhood (and let’s admit it, lifelong) fantasy of being a superhero, and for that reason alone, it leaves a big impact.

The six villains are each bursting with personality, and the different super powers are some of the most interesting abilities from any island. As far asgreat superhero gamesgo, Super Power Island stands toe to toe with the best of the best.

4Time Tangled Island

Time Tangled Island was an early example of how imaginative Poptropica can get with how it frames its stories. A malfunctioning time machine forces you tojump between multiple time periodsto set the flow of time right, leading to and a hugely engaging and educational history-hopping adventure.

Each time period, whether it’s the Great Wall of China or Ancient Greece, sucks you in with its attention to detail and colourful characters. And once you’ve fixed time, you even get to meet your future self.

3Mystery Train Island

Some of the great whodunnit stories take place on the railroad tracks, and Mystery Train Island keeps that tradition well and alive. While on a train to the Chicago World’s Fair, a crime takes place that throws everything into jeopardy.

What follows is an irresistibly captivating mystery that constantly makes you wonder what’s going to happen next. And yet, despite all its unexpected turns, this puzzle fits together with a solution that is simultaneously satisfying and entirely unpredictable.

2Cryptids Islands

Big Foot, the Loch Ness Monster, the Chupacabra—fantastical folk creatures called cryptids that almost certainly don’t actually exist… probably. Real or not, Cryptids Island certainly vouches for their existence as you embark on a globe-trotting adventure to capture evidence of these elusive monsters.

Perhaps the most memorable (and terrifying) moment in all of Poptropica occurs when hunting down the Jersey Devil in a spooky country house, the cryptid jumps out of a window when you least expect it. This moment highlights how Cryptids Island isn’t afraid to play around with its tone and deliver an experience that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

1Mythology Island

The stories, gods, and monsters ofGreek Mythology are timeless for a reason, and for many children, Mythology Island was their introduction to this world. And what an introduction it was!

Mythology Island is Poptropica firing on all cylinders—a fantastic setting, wonderful puzzles, and a story that does its topic proud. With so much many wonderful ideas executed to near perfection, Zeus would certainly smile down on this Poptropica island.
