The Artificer is a fairly new addition to theDungeons & Dragonsuniverse, inspired by a trend that mixes steampunk with fantasy science-fiction. The class was introduced in Eberron: Rising from the Last War, with more pertinent details added later in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything.

The Artificer is primarily a ranged casting class, prioritizing Constitution, Dexterity, and Intelligence. They don’t make very good defenders because of limited armor class abilities, but the Artificer is a popular choice for healers and damage dealers. Most of the best magical items for Artificers are also great for all kinds of spellcasters, and either augment your casting abilities or give you better and more AC options.
8Illusionist’s Bracers, Very Rare
According to the Guildmaster’s Guide to Ravnica, these bracers were created by a powerful caster of House Dimir, and it allowed them to cast several illusions at once. Its power is slightly different in the game and can be applied to more than just spells from the School of Illusion.
When you cast a cantrip, the Illusionist’s Bracers allow you to use a Bonus Action to cast that spell a second time. Anything that increases our casting power is one of the best magical items for an Artificer.

7Robe Of Useful Items
Ideal for several classes but this Uncommon magical item has a special place with an Artificer, which has the power of Magical Tinkering. This ability gives the Artificer the ability to make a variety of creative things using random parts, and some of these things can be provided by this robe.

Each patch on the robe can become a real version of the thing it represents, and examples include daggers, lanterns, mirrors, bags, poles, and rope. Once all of the Useful Item patches are used, they don’t regenerate, reducing it to a regular old robe.
6All Purpose Tool
A Very Rare item from the same source that gave usthe refined version of the Artificer, Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, almost any class can make good use of this magical item. It resembles a simple screwdriver, but it can become any kind of Artisan’s Tool that might be required at the time.
You might want to check the Player’s Handbook to get an idea of the array of items this covers, and your character automatically has proficiency with any tool that they create. It includes Cartographer’s Tools, if you need a sextant, for example, or Mason’s Tools if you’re looking for a way to shape or damage stone.

5Belt of Dwarvenkind
Any magical item that improves Constitution is a good choice for an Artificer. They usually can’t wear a lot of armor, and this helps boost their hit points should they need to take damage.

A Dwarf wearing this Rare belt gets a +2 to their Constitution stat and a bonus on Persuasion checks when interacting with members of their fellow species, along with a boost to their beard-growing capabilities. Non-Dwarves get these same benefits, plus Darkvision, the ability to speak Dwarvish, improvements to poison resistance, and a bonus to saving throws against poison damage.
4Serpent Scale Armor
This armor is found in the Candlekeep Mysteries adventure, and any class that depends on a high Dexterity would seek out this Uncommon item. It’s made from shimmering scales, which could just as easily have come from a fish, but maybe we’ll just trust the shopkeeper or Indentify spell for this one.
Unlike other kinds of armor, this one doesn’t affect your ability to cast spells or use a Stealth-related ability. When you quip the Serpent Scale Armor, you retain your existing AC instead of the usual cap at +2 along with the penalty to Dexterity.

3Animated Shield
Artificers should prioritize any magical items that add improvements to defensive abilities, which is why they should seek out the Animated Shield. Speak its command word as a Bonus Action, and this Very Rare item hovers next to you, deflecting attacks and adding +2 to your AC while leaving your hands free.

Cast spells or use certain special items that you wouldn’t normally be able to do with a shield in one hand. The shield lasts for one minute or until you speak its command word again, are incapacitated in some way, or die.
Then it either falls to the ground or back into your hand.

2Eyes of Minute Seeing
An Uncommon item found in the 5th Edition of the Player’s Handbook, a variety of classes can use the Eyes of Minute Seeing, but they seem especially suited to the Artificer class. They can be found in chests or dungeons, but vendors in bigger cities might also carry them, albeit for a handsome price.
These small crystal lenses fit over the eyes and give the wearer a bonus to any Investigation checks that depend on your vision. The success of this role depends on your Intelligence stat, which is typically high for an Artificer.

1Wand Of Lightning Bolts
There’s avariety of different kinds of wandsof varying types of quality that you can use to get better spell damage or a few more spell slots, and any of these are decent for an Artificer. Other options include the Wand of Magic Missiles or the Wand of Firebolt, if you can find them.
The Wand of Lightning Bolts is a Rare item with seven charges of Cast Lightning Bolt, a spell that bounces around for a few seconds after hitting its primary target, so it also has an AoE ability even if it’s arbitrary. Each hit of the wand does 1d6 damage and the charges replenish every morning at dawn.
