Whether you put in the time to unlock your Mewtwo or purchased it later, prepare for an incredibly powerful Pokemon. If Mewtwo’s emergency nerf after release wasn’t reason enough to try this (arguably still) broken Pokemon, then its incredibly simple and fun play style should convince you.
When To Pick Mewtwo X
Mewtwo X is one of the few Pokemon you can arguablyadd to any teamregardless of the composition.
First and foremost,Mewtwo is an All-Rounder with a brawler playstylethat rewards you for picking off lone foes and snowballing your Mega Evolution’s wrath into a larger group.
If you enjoy being in the middle of the fray and engaging in fights head-on then Mewtwo X is a great choice for you.
Smart, strategic use of moves like Future Sight can make you a menace if you learn how to separate vulnerable foes from their tanks.
For Battle Items, Mewtwo can make the best use of anEject Button or Full Heal, but Potion isn’t a bad emergency option either.
Mewtwo X: Psystrike Build
This build is intended tohinder your foes and disrupt their movementsvia Psystrike’s passive effect.
You will be more effective against groups especially if you prefer to take a cautious approach to engagements.
Moves
Psystrikewill be your sole damaging move choice here and is designed to enable your teammates to shred opposing Pokemon alongside you as they struggle to escape.
The main draw of Psystrikeis the ability to become Unstoppable while taking 25 percent less damage after using it. Compared to Future Sight, Psystrike is far more defensively oriented and focused on reducing the foe’s movement speed to the tune of ten percent.
Your other choices are Recover orTeleport, the latter of which is preferable for increased movement ability,particularly if you forego an Eject Button.
Teleportwill provide excellent utility as it allows Mewtwo to do the following:
UseTeleport to either initiate engagements or fleethem after using Psystrike to deal damage and slow down your pursuers.
Keeping Teleport ready in your back pocket for an escape is usually a smart choice.
Held Items
Mewtwo can make use of a variety of held items, though the combination ofRazor Claw, Scope Lens, andMuscle Bandwill help to pick up your damage a little bit and allow you tofocus on basic attacks.
Psystrike’s damage is less burst-focused than Future Sight, so using your auto attacks to chunk down opposing Pokemon’s HP will be helpful.
You can swap outMuscle Band for Focus Bandif you want to prioritize survivability, or you can opt forWeakness Policyto improve your counter-punches.
Mewtwo X: Future Sight Build
This build centers aroundFuture Sight’sincredible three-pronged threat as asure-hit,a pull, and anincredibly potent damaging move.
If you use this move intelligently then you’ll find yourself with the upper hand in most engagements, especially when youuse the element of surprise.
Few things are more satisfying than waiting in a bush, and then pulling a passing enemy into it using Future Sight to KO them.
Select Future Sight immediatelyas your main damaging move as it will:

Much like its other build,Teleport is essentialif you value unparalleled movement.
Recover is still a safepickfor survivability if you aren’t sure how to use your Teleport effectively.
Scope Lenswill improve your critical hit rate and critical damage, offering an excellent boost to Mewtwo’s already stellar Future Sight.
Muscle Bandwill help you dish out more DPS with faster attacks whileFocus Bandwill boost your survivability in a pinch.
If you’re going for afull-on counter-punch build, then go with Weakness Policy, Scope Lens, and Focus Band.
This combination will allow you to come back from the brink of being KO’ed by continuing to attack and replenish HP via the Focus Band without fearing for your life.
Ultimately,the best Held Items to equipare the ones that fit your play style, and thankfully Mewtwo offers plenty of variety in that regard.
