Summary
FromPokemonthatresemble house catsto Pokemon thatresemble wild rats, Nintendo has made a ‘Mon for every occasion. But did you know that Nintendo has also, unintentionally, created a monarchy in some Pokemon species? After 27 long years of video games, anime, and card games, it should come as no surprise that Pokemon with more royal characteristics have joined this giant ensemble.
With impressive powers, loyal followings, and regal attires, there are some Pokemon that rise above the other Normal-types. So, get ready to bow and curtsy because here are the top ten royal Pokemon in the series.

These Pokemon were selected because of their royal characteristics, such as regal names, attributes, and appearances, reflecting their majesty and power in the Pokemon world.
10Nidoking And Nidoqueen
Starting off, the first two royals to make this list are the Poison and Ground types Nidoking and Nidoqueen. Why? Well, they have the words “king” and “queen” in their names. Obviously! In all seriousness, Nidoking and Nidoqueen get special recognition because they’ve been around since Generation I of Pokemon.
They are the first Pokemon whoseevolutionary line had major differences depending on gender, and they are also one of the first three stage evolution Pokemon ever introduced (besides the starter ‘Mons). Despite being known in-game as the Drill Pokemon, Nidoking and Nidoqueen are royal through and through.

9Slaking
Another Pokemon that posses the word “king” in their name is Slaking. As their title implies, this monarch is the most lethargic royal figure on this list. However, don’t think that this king’s laziness means that they are inactive.
Slaking is actually one of the strongest Normal-types in the Pokemon series. Even with their ability Truant, which prevents Slaking from moving every other turn, they are still a force to be reckoned with. If you still doubt this king’s power, then play Pokemon Colosseum. Chances are, it’ll take you more than one try to knock this royal out.

8Serperior
Noble, elegant, and intimidating. Those are the three words that best describe Serperior. The final evolution of the Grass-type starter Pokemon Snivy, Serperior is, well, superior to the rest. So much so that even their Pokedex entry refers to Serperior as the Regal Pokemon.
With abilities such as Overgrow, which adds a damage boost to Grass type moves when Serperior’s health is low, and Contrary, which reverses the effect of stat changes, Serperior can face off (and win) against any opponent that might threaten their regal position.

7Empoleon
Empoleon is a regal Pokemon whose level-up gives them a royal crown. Or in this case, a royal, three-horned beak. The final evolution of thestarter Water-type Pokemon Piplup, Empoleon is a Water and Steel ‘Mon whose presence commands respect. Fitting since they are known as the Emperor Pokemon.
Powerful, prideful, and dressed to the nines, any foe that might want to challenge Empoleon should probably think twice as this Pokemon’s wings are sharp. How sharp you may ask? Well, sharp enough to slice through icy glaciers. Talk about intimidating!

6Tsareena
Up next is her royal highness Tsareena. Hailing from an all-female line, it’s clear that this Grass-type Pokemon is the queen of the Alola region. And not just because she has a crown attached to her head.
With her strikingly regal appearance, Tsareena wows whatever court she enters. Be it a luxury store, a competitive battle, or even a kicking competition. Not to mention that Tsareena’s ability, Queenly Majesty, is the definition of a monarch’s power over her enemies. Good luck trying to attack when Tsareena takes over the battlefield!

5Slowking
Another Pokemon with the word “king” in their name? It’s more likely than you think. But what makes Slowking special is the fact that they are known as the Royal Pokemon. Sure, in Galar they are known as the Hexpert Pokemon, but Slowkings that you find in regions like Johto uphold this royal title.
The evolved form of Slowpoke, Slowking can only reach their kingly potential when traded with a King’s Rock. Once evolved, Slowking becomes poised, intelligent, and even sports a new crown to showcase their regality. Sure, their improved brain power comes from a Shellder’s poison but besides that, Slowking is an excellent addition to the royal line.

4Pyroar
Slowking isn’t the only ‘Mon that’s called the Royal Pokemon. This title also goes to the Fire and Normal type, Pyroar. Introduced in Generation VI, Pyroar is the evolved form of Litleo who, depending on their gender, will gain two very different and distinct royal manes.
Inspired byreal-life lions, Pyroars are part of a prideful pride who work hard to defend their families from outside threats. How do they do defend themselves? By using their strong fiery firepower to burn away any evildoer. That’s how!

3Vespiquen
Queen bee coming through! Vespiquen is the evolved form of a female Combee and is clearly the queen of the beehive. A Bug and Flying type Pokemon, Vespiquen lives her life in luxury, being waited on hand and wing by her Combee followers.
But don’t mistake this as a sign of indolence. Vespiquen knows how to sting her opponents where it hurts. Sure, all of Vespiquen’s exclusive moves, Attack Order, Defend Order, and Heal Order, depend on her subjects lending a helping hand, but don’t all queens require a little extra protection?

2Aegislash
Aegislash distinguishes itself from the rest of the Pokemon with royal titles. This unique creature, aptly known as the Royal Sword Pokemon, is a formidable combination of Steel and Ghost types, debuting in Generation VI of the Pokemon series.
Once used by past kings to build kingdoms and command subjects, Aegislash is both a powerful and dangerous partner. Be careful of Aegislash’s two forms, as their defensive Shield Form will protect them from heavy hits and their offensive Blade Forme will slash any enemy to pieces.

1Calyrex
Make way, make way, the king of the list has arrived. Calyrex is a unique Psychic and Grass type who is known as the King Pokemon. At least, that is what they are referred to when they aren’t seated on their royal steed.
Once Calyrex mounts either Glastrier or Spectrier, their title changes into the High King Pokemon. Compassionate, intelligent, and a former king of the Galar region, Calyrex is a fitting monarch for any land. And they even have the giant crown on their head to prove it.
