InProject Zomboid, you have a whole host of skills, from Carpentry to Long Blade weaponry, that you can learn. This isn’t just to make your characters more unique, but it affects gameplay and the type of things you can craft and do when you try to survive in the brutal world of the zombie apocalypse. The bottom line is, these skills are important if you want to survive or elseyou’ll probably meet a grisly end.

However, much like everything else in the game, it’s also depicted as realistically as it can be, which means you won’t be learning skills and levelling up often. That is, unless you use these clever tips and tricks to help you learn some skills quickly in Project Zomboid.
10Television
If you’re playing Project Zomboid, then, chances are, unless you have modsor changed the settings, you’ll spawn in on June 01, 2025, at 9am. What you’ll want to do is find the nearest television and watch the Life and Living channel, which has shows that can help boost your skills. This includes a Cook Show at 6am , Woodcraft at 12pm and Exposure Survival which can improve Farming, Fishing, Foraging and Trapping at 6pm.
This is a fantastic way to learn these skills early on in the game and, since you’ll likely be around plenty of homes with televisions, this will give you a much-needed boost for a range of different skills.

9VHS Tapes
Eventually, the television channels won’t broadcast anything. If electricity hasn’t been shut off, or you have a generator, then you’ll want to get VHS tapes. There are usually stores in towns that sold tapes that you can scavenge from, and you can get all sorts of tapes on skills from Mechanics to Fishing.
you’re able to sometimes find VHS tapes of home videos and such when scavenging around, and some of these can also help improve your skills if you watch them.

8Books
It sounds basic, but books are essential if you want to learn skills quickly. Rather than just watching a VHS tape, make sure you understand what skill the tape is teaching you and then read a book about that skill.

Skill books won’t add to your XP directly but they do add a multiplier to any XP you learn from participating in an activity that boosts the skill or watching VHS tapes and television. That multiplier is only going to have you learn the skill much quicker.
7Fast Learner
Project Zomboid can be tough, but don’t forget that you may have traits too. Fast Learner will give you a permanent boost of 130 percent to all XP gains for any skill besides Fitness and Strength.
That means every other skill in the game will forever be boosted and, on top of that, it can stack with the multipliers you get from books. If you want to learn skills fast, then it’s obvious you pick up Fast Learner to learn general skills quickly.

6Fast Reader
Another trait that can be helpfulis Fast Reader. This trait will allow your character to have a permanent boost to the speed it takes to read books, which includes skill books. This is helpful because, to be honest, reading skill books is something that you should do in downtime and there’s always something to do when it comes to your survival.
If you’re worried about books taking too long, then getting the Fast Reader trait will have you skimming those pages and getting that sweet skill multiplier without spending too much time reading.

5Cut, Saw And Spear
Although there aren’t that many exploits in Project Zomboid, there are still some that can help you with learning skills quickly. One of these is to cut down trees, saw the logs, and then turn the planks into spears. This will boost your Carpentry skill because all three of these actions directly add to the XP.
ensure that you read some books on Carpentry too so that you can get even more XP with that multiplier. You should also be sure to try to take some of those logs and planks with you, as they’ll be very useful resources in the future.

4Forage As Much As You Can
Foraging is perhaps the easiest skill to level up. All you have to do is click on the Foraging menu on your left and go into the forage mode. When you do, the world around you will blur slightly, and you can walk around until items will pop up that will be items you can forage.
You should pick up every single item you can. They are usually low weight and picking them up will add to your Foraging XP. If you forage enough, you’ll easily boost this skill much quicker than any other.

3Scavenge Electronics
When searching and looting homes in Project Zomboid, you may think it’s best to not pick everything up, and you’re right. However, one thing you should never leave behind is electronics. Whether these are TV remotes, alarm clocks, or other items in the electronics category, you can take them and then dismantle them at your base.

This is another act that will begin adding XP directly to your Electrical skill and a lot of these electronics aren’t really important items, so there’s nothing to worry about when it comes to disassembling them.
2Disassemble Dumpsters
Something else you can disassemble to get some XP in a skill is dumpsters. You’re never going to have to use them, and they are something that post-apocalyptic America wouldn’t really worry about. So, if you have a propane torch and welding mask, you can then disassemble any of the dumpsters you come across.
Not only is this an easy way to get quick XP as there are dumpsters all over different towns, but they can also reward you with some of the highest XP in the Metalworking skill out of various things you can disassemble.

1Kill Missions
You don’t want to neglect the other skills in Project Zomboid, and this is where kill missions come into play. What you’ll want to do is go out into a certain area of town and then begin to kill zombies that are around. Get comfortable and use it as a training ground of sorts; sprint and sneak around when you may.
This will not only help out your more physical skills like Fitness and Strength, but it will also have you get more comfortable with the zombies around and will build up your other skills whilst clearing out some zombies.
