FIFA 23revamped the free kick system, offering a new challenge to master: more control over every free kick than ever before. On paper, it’s fantastic, but within a complex system, there often lies a simple solution. The same rings true for scoring free kicks in FIFA 23, as it’s easy to overcomplicate the process.

The two most important factors to consider for your free kicks are your reticle positioning and shot power. Each one plays a vital role, along with other contributing factors like the Free Kick Accuracy attribute of the player shooting and their dominant foot.
How To Pick The Power
Topick your power perfectlyevery time, you must judge whether your free kick isshort-range(close to the box) ormedium to long-range(about five or more steps away from the penalty area).
Once you’ve judged your positioning and selected your player, you’ll need tokeep your power in the “sweet spot” for the given distance.

Remember to keepFree Kick Accuracy,Shot Power, andCurveattributes in mind when selecting a player.
Each attribute is important, thoughShot Power is key for longer range, whileCurveand Accuracyare essential elements toshort-range Free Kicks.

Short-Range Free Kicks
Roughly three bars of powerare ideal for short-range free kicks that are about one to four steps away from the edge of the box.
You should reduce the power to a tiny bitunder three bars(roughly 2.8-2.9 bars) if you are pushedright up against the penalty box.

If you are worried about missing the target,be cautious and use the lower range of recommended shot power, as this may generate a rebound, while harder shots that miss the net are wasted.
Medium & Long-Range Free Kicks
You’ll needover three bars of power – up to roughly 3.3 bars– if you hope to score from longer distances in FIFA 23.
It’s not recommended to attempt these unless you havea player with Shot Power in the 90s, as the distance takes a lot of sting out of your shots.

Regardless of your skill, the goalkeeper usually has time to make a save or can be bailed out by manual defending with a center back, sothese are not high-percentage shots.

How To Aim Your Free Kick
Aiming your free kick in FIFA 23 is a bit of an art, as the most minor of changes can throw off the trajectory of your shot.
Unlike selecting the power, this aspect is more complex and relies heavily onprecise movementsand theplayer’s Curve attribute.

Your main goal when aiming a free kick is to get the ball past the shoulder and head of theplayer on the edge of the wall.
To do this, aim your reticlebetween the shoulder of the edge defender and the goalkeeper, allowing your shot to miss the wall and curve away from the keeper.

You will need to experiment to understand exactly the right spot.
Go toFK Frenzyfound under theMomentstab in FIFA Ultimate Team. Here you will be able to play around with various free kick positions and put your learning into practice.
If you align the reticle with the defender’s shoulder, it’s abouttwo or three light touches with your left stickto get to the sweet spot.
After you choose the shot power and reticle location, you’ll want torotate your right stick a few times to curve the ballinto your desired corner.
Players with a95–99 Curve usually only need one or two rotations, while those with a94 or lower Curve usually take three (or more)to ideally avoid the wall and the keeper.
However, where you aim your reticle will also depend onthe strong foot of the playeryou’re using.
How To Score With A Left-Footed Player
A left-footed player is best to takefree kicks from the right side, or from the center when the wall is pushedfurther right.
Generally, you’ll want tocurve your shots around the wallfrom the central area of the box, so the ball curves away from the goalkeeper and tothe upper-right corner.
How To Score With A Right-Footed Player
A right-footed player is best to takefree kicks from the left side, or from the center when the wall is pushedfurther left.
Here, you’ll still want tocurve your shots around the wallfrom the central area of the box, but this time the ball curves away from the goalkeeper and tothe upper-left corner.
Regardless of what foot the player prefers, leavingthe point-of-contact at the defaultis often the best move for scoring consistently.
