Updated on Jul 13, 2025, by Dennis Moiseyev:Alan Wake 2 is already filled with so many amazing performances from its core cast, and the ones in The Lake House DLC prove just as phenomenal. With The Lake House DLC being the final part of the story, it was time to update this list with all the actors portraying the equally compelling new characters you’ll be encountering in the nightmarish FBC expansion. See where you might know them all from below!
1Saga Anderson
Melanie Liburd
Saga Anderson is Alan Wake 2’s new protagonist and playable character, whose story intertwines with Alan’s as she faces many paranormal and supernatural challenges of her own outside the Dark Place. Melanie Liburd plays this FBI agent caught between all the horror and mystery that also seems to be affecting her family.
While you may not have seen Liburd in any previous games, as this is the first character she’s portraying in that realm, she’s been in plenty of familiar television shows. You may recognize her as Stansfield professor Carrie Milgram from the Power Universe spin-offBook 2: Ghost, Zoe Baker fromThis is Us, or Nyx Harper fromDark Matter. She’s also starred inNetflix’s Gypsy, HBO Max’sThe Idol, andBad Boys: Ride or Die.
Matthew Porretta
The titular character and sole protagonist of the original 2010 game, Alan Wake, as well as his evil doppelganger, Scratch, are reprised by voice actor Matthew Porretta. His face model and live-action counterpart is Ilkka Villi, but the voice is always Porretta, including his new werewolf double, The Bad Boy, in Night Springs Episode 1. And since Alan Wake 2shares many Easter eggs and connections with Control(Remedy’s previous game), he’s also reprising the role of Dr. Casper Darling, who hasa much more expanded role in New Game Plus.
Outside of Remedy projects, Matthew Porretta has voiced characters Marco Graziani and Mooch in Bethesda’sStarfieldand has additional voice credits inHomefront,Red Dead Redemption 2, andGrand Theft Auto 5. In TV and film, you may have seen him in Mel Brooks’Robin Hood: Men in Tights,The New Adventures of Robin Hood, orBeverly Hills: 90210.
3Alex Casey
James McCaffrey
Alex Casey is supposedly Saga Anderson’s coffee-loving FBI partner, but he’s also the fictional detective character Alan made much of his writing career off of. His character model may match the game’s creative director, Sam Lake, buthis distinctive voice is done by the late James McCaffrey, who previously voiced hard-boiled detective Max Payne forRemedy’s Max Payne series.
In other games within the Remedy world, McCaffrey was also Thomas Zane inthe first Alan Wakeand former Federal Bureau of Control director Zachariah Trench inControl. McCaffrey has also been in various shows such asSuits,Revenge,Rescue Me, andJessica Jones. Another notable video game role of his is protagonist Edward Carnby in2008’s Alone in the Dark.
4Agent Kiran Estevez
Janina Gavankar
Actress Janina Gavankar is contributing her talents more and more to video games. In 2023 alone, she voiced Kiran Estevez inAlan Wake 2, Freddie inStray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical, Shroud inRedfall, and Tanta Sila inForspoken. And you may recall she was alsoStar Wars protagonist Iden Versio in Battlefront 2. Her character is a Federal Bureau of Control agent who helps Saga and Alan in their paranatural fight and is the main protagonist of The Lake House DLC.
Aside from video games, Gavankar has portrayed just as many characters in numerous television shows, like Ren Bhullar inBig Sky, Alison Namazi inThe Morning Show, Meredith Bose inThe Mysteries of Laura, Diana Thomas inSleepy Hollow, and Luna Garza inTrue Blood. She also starred in the filmsBlindspottingand basketball dramaThe Way Backwith Ben Affleck.
5Sheriff Tim Breaker And The Actor/Himself
Shawn Ashmore
Another Remedy Entertainment reunion happening in Alan Wake 2 is with the sheriff of Bright Falls, Tim Breaker, who mysteriously disappears into the Dark Place. He also goes on a multiversal adventure as a playable character in Night Springs. He’s played by Shawn Ashmore, the time-manipulating protagonist Jack Joyce of 2016’sQuantum Break, which gets plenty of Easter eggs and neat callbacks in Alan Wake 2.
Shawn Ashmore has been in some huge Hollywood projects. You might remember him as Bobby, or Iceman, from theX-Men movies, the supe known as Lamplighter fromThe Boys, or his character Wesley Evers from the ABC showThe Rookie. Ashmore is also no stranger to horror, playing Conrad inThe Dark Pictures: Man of Medan, Timmy inSons of the Forest, and starring in the filmsThe Ruins,Aftermath, andMother’s Day.
6Warlin Door
David Harewood
Mr. Door is a character first referenced in Control, and he makes his debut in Alan Wake 2 in live-action during Alan’s segments in the Dark Place, as well as narrates the Night Springs DLC episodes. He still remains pretty vague and mysterious, but there are hints toward a major reveal about his character throughout the game. You’ll also get to see him sing and danceduring the musical number!
Portraying this new character in the Remedy Connected Universe is David Harewood. If you’ve seenSupergirland all the otherCW Arrowverse shows, you’ll know him as none other than Martian Manhunter, or J’onn J’onzz, in disguise as D. E.O. Director Hank Henshaw.
He’s also starred in the television seriesHomelandas David Estes,The Night Manageras Joel Steadman,The Acolyteas Senator Rayencourt, andSherwoodas Denis Bottomley. Harewood also previously voiced characters in games likeCall of Duty: Infinite Warfare,Killzone: Shadow Fall, andBattlefield 3.
7Alice Wake
Christina Cole
Alice Wake joins Alan once more in Alan Wake 2, but in a different way than you think. She appears in the Dark Place only through live-action video recordings she makes for her husband, andher character has an excellent twist by the end. Actress Christina Cole plays Alice in the sequel.
While she may appear as her live-action self in Alan Wake 2, Christina Cole is no stranger to voicing video game characters. She’s the voice behind many NPCs inVampyr, such as Carol, Loretta, Sabrina, and Thelma, Sarah Hawkins in 2018’sCall of Cthulhu, and Anabella Rosfield inFinal Fantasy 16. And in the TV showSuits, she’s Dr. Paula Agard.
8Tor And Odin Anderson
Stuart Milligan And Harry Ditson
The Norse mythology references are plenty in Alan Wake 2. Contributing to them is also the return of sibling rocker duo Tor and Odin Anderson, who have a major connection to a certain someone in the game. They’re formerly of Old Gods of Asgard, with the brothers now retired at the Valhalla Nursing Home, but you still get to see them play their band’s greatest hits, even in live-action.
Their live-action counterparts are a band called Poets of the Fall, but in the gameplay, Tor Anderson is now voiced by Stuart Milligan, and Odin Anderson is now voiced by Harry Ditson.
Stuart Milligan is recognizable for the roles of President Richard Nixon inDoctor Who, Bruno Ramos inTom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Max Samson in the soap operaCrossroads, and President Grover Cleveland inEvil West.
Harry Ditson is best known for starring in the role of Du Quois in the 1984 spy parody filmTop Secret!and Dr. Hirsch in the 1982 sci-fi horror filmThe Sender. While recently, he’s had more minor roles in movies likeAngel Has Fallenand Woman in Gold, he voiced Walker in the 2019 Audible version of theAlien 3screenplay by William Gibson.
9Thomas Zane
Ilkka Villi
Filmmaker Thomas Zane might’ve been the Diver in the first game, voiced by James McCaffrey, but Alan Wake 2 sees Zane become Alan’s twin with different hair and fashion (continuing from Control’s DLC). Like Christina Cole and David Harewood, Tom Zane appears only in live-action and is performed by Finnish actor Ilkka Villi.
Aside from being the face of Alan Wake and now also the voice and face of Thomas Zane in the Remedy Connected Universe, Ilkka Villi is best known for his supporting role as Kari Sorjonen’s partner Niko Uusitalo inNetflix’s Bordertown, Ilkka Jaamala inInvisible Heroes, and Mr. White inImaginaerum.
10Ahti
Martti Suosalo
Ahti from Control returns to his extradimensional custodial duties as a janitor first encountered in the Dark Place by Alan Wake inside Mr. Door’s Studio and then appears throughout Saga’s chapters. And reprising this BAFTA-winning silly enigmatic character who says phrases like “The more cooks, the worse soup” is Martti Suosalo.
Like his co-stars Ilkka Villi and Peter Franzén, Martti Suosalo is a Finnish actor who’s only been in international Finnish movies and TV shows. If you enjoy Nordic Noir, perhaps you’ve seen Suosalo in the Netflix Finnish detective seriesDeadwind, where he played Poteri. He also got to play Bilbo Baggins in the 1993 Finnish miniseries adaptation of The Lord of the Rings calledHobitit.
