ClassicCall of Dutygames are seeing a huge resurgence on Xbox thanks to the servers being fixed, with over200,000 people playing across Black Ops and Modern Warfare in July. Granted, a bighacking problemruined the experience for many on Black Ops 2, but that didn’t stop fans from jumping back into the originals like no time had passed. But unfortunately, if you’re hoping to do the same on your old Wii or DS, you’ll find no such luck, as the servers have finally gone offline. As reported byStealth Optional, if you try to boot up any of the Call of Duty games on Wii right now, you’ll get error code 20110 which reads, “Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service for this software has been discontinued.” Despite the Wii and DS now being defunct, with the storefronts closing as Nintendo moved its focus solely to the Switch, World at War and Black Ops had fairly active communities for the better part of a decade. But those communities have to migrate if they want to keep playing.RELATED:Never Underestimate The Nostalgia Of Call Of DutyCall of Duty games on Nintendo platforms have never been consistent. Activision launched a version of Modern Warfare called “Reflex” with less content, but never its sequel. Weirdly, it did launch Modern Warfare 3 on Wii, skipping the fan-favourite middle child altogether. The DS was even more bizarre, as it couldn’t run Call of Duty, which led Activision to developcompletely unique versions of each game. Black Ops even had its own Zombies maps exclusive to the platform.

The last time Call of Duty was seen on a Nintendo console was back in 2013 with Ghosts on the Wii U. So far, Activision has skipped the Switch generation altogether, but that’s set to change thanks to the Microsoft acquisition. It pledged to launch new Call of Duty games on Switchthe same day they release on Xbox, thoughthe CMA doesn’t believe that’s possible.

Nintendo hardware has historically been weaker than its competitors, which is why we got versions like Modern Warfare Reflex and the unique DS version of Black Ops. Xbox finally admitted in June that Call of Dutywill run worse on Switchto nobody’s surprise, but some speculate it might instead launchCloud versionswhich would technically be the same quality. You’d just need good internet.

Whatever happens, you currently can’t play the classic Call of Duty games online on a Nintendo platform. The servers have been, after a decade, shut down. No more motion control Modern Warfare sessions with your buds. Maybe one day we’ll see the classics return to modern Nintendo platforms, but in the meantime, your best bet is the bustling Xbox community.
