Chasing As The Family

First, you’ll want to knowhow to handle chases as a Family Member. While it comes down to chasing down foes and try to take them down, you shouldremember what your specific character can do.

Family Member Specific Chasing Tactics

Each of theFamily members have techniques that the others can’t use, so learn these strategies, so you’ll know what to do, or how to counter them.

Tactics

Leatherface

Leatherface isthe only character that can cut down the blockades, so take them out whenever you can. You can also have Leatherfacethrust his chainsaw into the wall gapsand crawl spaces, so use them as enemies are going through them for extra damage.

Cook

Cook has a hard time chasing, but cantrack people by listening for them. Cook can alsoplace locks on different doors, preventing Victims from going through them. Pickhigh traffic areasto cut them off. Cook can alsokick in crawl spacesto block them. Victims can lift them, but it’ll slow them down during a chase.

Johnny

Johnny can also kick crawl spaces. He has the Track ability that’ll let himfind footsteps of nearby enemiesif they escape you.

Hitchhiker and Sissy

These two are similar, sincethey can both crawl through wall cracks and crawl spaces. Neither can go through barricades. As another strategy,Hitchhiker can place trapsat the ends of these escape routes to catch Victims, whileSissy uses poison.

Family Chasing Tips

With those in mind, you’ll want toapply some general tipsto help you finish those chases and take down your Victims.

Prepare By Setting Up

Remember that many of these characters canset up to prepare for a chase, helping them save time later. For instance, you shouldcut off as many escapes as possible. While Hitchhiker and Sissy can chase Victims through crawl spaces and the walls,it’s easier to just cut off those exits. Have Johnny and Cook kick down the crawl spaces while Hitchhiker and Sissy place traps around the walls.

As for Leatherface, he’s the only one that candestroy barricades, making it crucial for you to take them down as soon as possible. Even if you don’t have any enemies around, rev your chainsaw and take it down, so it won’t be an escape route later.

Even if enemies don’t immediately fall for your setups, you can guide them where you want them. For instance, you can place a lock on a door as Cook, then chase enemies toward the locked spots, so you’ll get them faster.

Work With Your Teammates

Remember that youaren’t by yourself in this gamewhile other asymmetrical horror games only have one person hunting, you may rely on your teammates to help you.You have a sense ability that highlights important objects, including your teammates, so if you want to make the chase easier, direct the victims toward the other Family members.

Doing so willplace them in a position where they have multiple people chasing them, preventing them from getting away. However, this is a risky tactic, sincethe other Victims will have fewer killers chasing them, giving them a chance to tackle objectives and seek an escape. On the other hand, this can be anexcellent tactic to hunt down the last fewor get one out of the game, so you’ll have less to worry about.

Know When To Disengage

Even though you may want to track down a Victim to secure a kill, you mustremember that they may attempt to distract you. Since the Victims have one extra teammate, they may send the one out to have you chase them, then they’ll have the others open exit routes, allowing them all to make their way out of the map.

If you notice an enemy isleading you away from the main objectives, they’re likely acting as a decoy. Instead, stop the chase if you don’t find yourself closing the distance. You can then run to the nearest objective and patrol the area for other Victims.Don’t fall for the sunk cost fallacy, which leaves people thinking they must stick with something since they already committed to it.

Escaping Chases As A Victim

On the other end of the game, you may find yourself running from the Family. You can use some tactics that the members can’t use while you run away, along with a few unique tactics, so you’ll want to review those options to maximize your efforts.

Victim Specific Escaping Tactics

Leland

Sonny

Victim Escaping Tips

As you select your different Victims, you shouldapply a few ideas during a chase to help you escapeand regroup with your team.

Take Advantage Of The Shadows

Some people become so focused on running away, they forget about the terrain available. Remember thatFamily members can’t see you all the time if you turn tight corners. The only time this doesn’t apply is if they have a passive that allows them to see you in certain circumstances, if Grandpa detects you, or Cook and Johnny use their abilities.

With that in mind, you canquickly hide around corners and duck into dark areasto avoid Family members. Thisworks best in the basement, since you have tons of corners and alternate corridors to make quick escapes and trip up the enemy. The strategy can also work in the house, but it’ll be hardest to do while outside.

Your best luck while outdoors is togo through a tight corridor and predict your enemy’s movementto escape.

Pay Attention To Your Chaser

Remember that Family members have strengths and weaknesses, so if youpay attention to what they struggle with, you can tackle the situation accordingly. For instance, if you’re being chased by Cook or Johnny, crawl spaces and walls will be excellent ways to escapethem. On the other hand, Sissy and Hitchhiker can follow you through those gaps.

If you know who’s chasing you, thenyou can react accordingly while also looking for escapes. Knowing the map will be your best friend, so take some time to look for these quick escape routes, so you won’t run into issues later on.

Try To Use Different Routes

Some Victimsmake the mistake of using the same escape routes every time they play. This causes them to go into autopilot mode, assuming that the path will work every time. However,Family members may pick up on this and take measures to counteract your strategies. For instance, Hitchhiker may place a trap on one of your escape routes, or Leatherface may destroy an obstacle.

It never hurts to rely on different strategies and mix it up. You can even use last resort strategies, such as hopping down the well, so they can’t immediately chase you, providing an opportunity to escape.
