Crota’s End received a massive rework inDestiny 2, practically overhauling the entire raid from the ground up with a rotating buff mechanic and numerous encounter changes. The end result is a raid that is significantly harder than the original but far more rewarding.

The rewards tied to Crota’s End also saw some major overhauls. Beyond the return of Necrochasm, this raid reprised six iconic weapons with a new fantastic origin trait, perk pools, and shuffled archetypes to help differentiate each weapon in the Destiny 2 sandbox. This guide will cover the best rolls you may craft on each weapon, both for PvE and PvP.
Abyss Defiant
It’s difficult to recommend any specific roll on Abyss Defiant. This is for two reasons:
PvE players can work with virtually any perk combination here. Reconstruction and Target Lock deals great damage. Heal Clip and Kill Clip has a great deal of synergy for seasonal content, andSubsistence and Incandescentmakes this weapon an add-slaying monster. We recommend that last roll above all else because it synergizes with the gun’s Cursed Thrall origin trait, allowing this gun to detonate corpses after you land a melee final blow.Incandescent can proc Cursed Thrall explosions, effectively giving this gun Chain Reaction for a few seconds. It’s a powerhouse of a Primary weapon if you like Auto Rifles.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the Crucible. This gun’s archetype significantly holds back its PvP potential.A base TTK of 0.83 seconds, paired with horrible stability and handling stats, makes Abyss Defiant a royal pain to use in the current sandbox. The gun can reach 100 range quite easily, but the same is true with 450s like Firefright. If Bungie ever buffs High-Impacts in the future, we can confidently recommendZen Moment with Sword Logic.Zen Moment makes this gun a laser beam, removing all visual recoil while greatly reducing incoming flinch. Sword Logic’s 20% damage buff after a kill brings the gun’s TTK down to 0.67 seconds if you can land consistent headshots. It might not dethrone Ammit in the Crucible, but keep an eye on Abyss Defiant if 360 Autos ever get buffed.
Fang Of Ir Yut
Scout Rifle and Strand enthusiasts are going to have a field day with Fang of Ir Yut, a 260 RPM Scout Rifle that deals Strand damage. Its stats are above-average but nothing noteworthy, outshone by Aisha’s Embrace and roughly comparable to Trustee from Deep Stone Crypt. But what immediately sets this gun apart is its weapon model. This gun uses the same model as Vision of Confluence andBad Juju. If you loved how Scout Rifles in the original Destiny felt, you’ll feel right at home with Fang of Ir Yut.
PvE players will want to useRapid HItwithGolden Tricorn. This is the first 260 Scout to roll with Golden Tricorn, and it’s a menace when paired with a good Strand build. Land a kill, use a Grapple melee to land a quick kill, then enjoya massive 50% damage bufffor 12 seconds. Sword Logic is also an option, although achieving a similar buff requires you to kill a boss-tier enemy—a difficult task for a Primary weapon. Rapid Hit will drastically improve the gun’s reload speed and stability to make this gun more responsive.

Crucible fans shouldn’t sleep on this gun either.Keep Away with Golden Triconis an absolute monster and a straight upgrade to the iconicRapid Hit and Kill Cliproll present on Randy’s Throwing Knife. That roll’s present on this gun too, but the Tricorn roll is just incredible when used properly. Keep Away makes this gun vacuum headshots with the boost to accuracy and range, and Enhanced Golden Tricorn will let you four-tap after a single kill. Unlike Sword Logic, this can get ramped up with an ability kill, allowing this gun to three tap at a blazing 0.47 TTK.And considering that this gun deals Strand damage, all you need is a Grapple melee to proc this. It’s absurdly powerful if you can build around it.

Oversoul Edict
Rapid-Fire Pulse Rifles might not be the best pick for PvE or PvP currently, but Oversoul Edict hopes to change that. This 540 RPM Pulse Rifle deals Arc damage and has an amazing perk pool that’s perfect for PvE add slaying and PvP dueling. Its stats are comparable to Autumn Wind and overshadows most recent 540s like Outlast, but it’s the perks and origin trait that make Oversoul Edict such a monster.
For PvE,Enlightened Action and Voltshotis the perfect roll for most PvE content. Enlightened Action is a new perk in Season of the Witch that grants +10 handling and reload speed per hit you land, stacking five times. It’s effectively Rapid Hit that scales handling over stability. This allows you to reload frequently to constantly proc Voltshot. The real reason this gun is amazing is the Cursed Thrall origin trait, causing targets to explode after you land a melee kill. Surprisingly,Voltshot kills trigger Cursed Thrall explosions, effectively giving your first bullet Chain Reaction. Your first bullet will inflict Jolt, chain lightning to nearby targets, then cause every slain target to explode. Enlightened Action will then hit max stacks, allowing you to immediately reload and repeat the process.

Oversoul Edict is the ultimate 540 Pulse Rifle for dueling inside the Crucible, even surpassing Autumn Wind.Eye of the StormandHeadseekeris the strongest combination of dueling perks you’ll find on a Pulse Rifle, previously exclusive to Disparity. Headseeker will buff your shots with increased aim assist and precision damage, and Eye of the Storm will make your future bursts vacuum to the target’s skull.Keep Awayis also an option in the third column if you don’t like Eye of the Storm, andEnlightened Actionis also worth using if you want to buff the gun’s otherwise low base stats. There are many ways to kit out Oversoul Edict, so feel free to experiment once you unlock its pattern.

Range
Song Of Ir Yut
Song of Ir Yut is a 600 RPM Machine Gun that deals Arc damage. It fills a similar niche as Commemoration, acting as the ultimate add-slaying option for double Special builds in PvE or Crucible players that dislike Heavy GLs.Reconstruction and Sword Logicmakes this gun perfect for clearing fodder units and majors in PvE, scaling your damage with Sword Logic as you kill tougher foes. Defeat a boss, and you may benefit from a near-permanent 50% damage buff. Reconstruction will passively fill your magazine while you aren’t firing. Pair all of this with the Cursed Thrall origin trait, and this gun can melt through packs of enemies as well as a Commemoration buffed with Volatile Rounds, perfect forArc-focused melee builds like Arcstrider Hunters.
Crucible players are better off using a Heavy GL with Impulse Amplifier and Proximity Grenades as far as Legendary Heavies are concerned, but the Song of Ir Yut can be useful.Unrelentingin the third column is a welcome addition, allowing you to heal after landing a double kill. We recommend pairing this withElemental Capacitorto max the gun’s handling stat while playing an Arc subclass.

Swordbreaker
Swordbreaker is the strongest Lightweight Shotgun in the Destiny 2 sandbox, both for PvE and PvP. It’s not even up for debate. This gun has more range than any other Lightweight Shotgun at 49, is tied with Riiswalker for having the most base handling at 71, and comes with an amazing origin trait that effectively gives this weapon Chain Reaction for a few seconds after a powered melee kill. It also deals Strand damage for those looking for a good PvP Special weapon that spawns Tangles.
PvE players should lean into the explosive potential of this gun.Subsistence and Hatchlingis dumb fun on this weapon, allowing you to fire a never-ending chamber of shotgun shells that detonate corpses and spawn Threadlings. If you play melee-centric builds and want a good One-Two Punch Shotgun, Swordbreaker is also a good pick.DemolitionistwithOne-Two Punchis a great combination that lets you auto-reload the weapon by throwing a grenade. And since the Cursed Thrall origin trait allows this gun to detonate slain targets, you’ll have your grenade charged more often than not.Pugilistis also an option, although this perk doesn’t give you a way of auto-reloading Swordbreaker.

Lightweight Shotguns are currently the worst Shotgun archetype for PvP, but Swordbreaker has such a stacked perk pool that it shouldn’t be immediately dismissed.Slideshot and Opening Shotis a classic combination that works well here, giving your first shot 100 range regardless of barrel and magazine perks. The third column can also getFragile Focusif you hate sliding, and you can even getThreat Detectorif you want a consistent boost to handling. These perks make 100 range a given for every gunfight, allowing you to focus your other perks on handling.
With the right roll, this gun can achieve 100 range and 90 handlingwith Opening Shot and Slideshot/Fragile Focus active, a feat that few Shotguns can achieve. Simply put, Swordbreaker is thebest Lightweight Shotgun in Destiny 2, yet that archetype is the very thing holding this gun back from disrupting the current Shotgun meta.
Handling
Word Of Crota
Similar to Swordbreaker, the Word of Crota is a best-in-class Primary weapon if you can get past its archetype. This weapon has been reprised as a Void 180 RPM Hand Cannon in Destiny 2. Precision Hand Cannons tend to be unpopular due to their low damage in PvE and lengthy TTK values in PvP, but Word of Crota manages to solve both issues with its perk pool.
Word of Crota is currently the only Hand Cannon to roll withDragonfly and Frenzy. Fatebringer can get a similar roll with Firefly, although the last time we saw a Hand Cannon roll with Dragonflyanda damage perk was Trust back in Forsaken. This also pairs nicely with the Cursed Thrall origin trait for melee builds, allowing you to chain many explosions with a single precision kill. Void builds using Volatile Rounds can replace Dragonfly withRepulsor Bracefor constant Void Overshields, andLucky PantsHunters can rockSword Logicin the fourth column to maintain the maximum 50% damage buff with ease. Use Lucky Pants to kill a boss, then slay any nearby adds to refresh the timer.
Precision Hand Cannons struggle to compete in PvP with their lengthy 1.0s TTK, but this archetype is quite sensitive to damage buffs. Most people are recommending Precision Instrument, but we find this perk to be a trap. It only three-taps at T2 Resilience or lower, and it persists for a meager 1.5 seconds. Instead, consider usingKilling WindwithSword Logic.A single kill will grant +20 range and a 20% damage buff for eight seconds, allowing this gun to three-tap at 35+ meters. That morphs the Word of Crota into a pre-nerf Not Forgotten, but you’ll need to land a kill first. It’s not our first choice for game modes like Trials of Osiris, but for 6v6 modes and 3v3 modes with multiple lives, Word of Crota is a surprisingly powerful Hand Cannon in the hands of a good player.
