The storytelling tabletop game Dixit is getting a new edition today, with the launch of Dixit: Disney Edition as part of the animation giant’s 100th anniversary.
Dixit: Disney Edition follows all the usual rules of Dixit, with the main difference being the inclusion of 84 new cards inspired by Disney and Pixar movies. There’s also new player pieces based on the likes of Alice in Wonderland, Aladdin, and Monsters Inc.

Dixit: Disney Edition is designed by the creator of Dixit themselves, Jean-Louis Roubira. According to publisher Libellud, this version of the game has been in the works for over three years, and the final list of 84 cards comes from a whopping 500 tested during design. This is a fully-fledged version of Dixit, rather than a quick tie-in with a Disney lick of paint.
Dixit is a game of “storytelling and guesswork”. One player, the ‘storyteller’ for the turn, chooses a card from their hand, and then must make a cryptic sentence to describe it. Each other player must secretly choose their own card, and all are put on the table. Each player who correctly identifies the storyteller’s card, and the storyteller themselves, get three points each.

Dixit: Disney Edition
Based on 100 years of Disney and Pixar, Dixit: Disney Edition badds some Disney magic to the storytelling game of suggestion. Pick a card and describe it in a short sentence: the more of your fellow players who can identify your card, the better you do. Try not to be too obvious, though, as everybody guessing it correctly will net you no points! With 84 new Disney-themed cards, and player pieces based on some of its biggest movies, this is an excellent expansion to Dixit, and a worthwhile piece of Disney collectors.
There is a catch, though: if all the players guess your card, or if none of them do, you get no points at all. To win, you’ll need to be just descriptive enough for most players to guess the card, but not too much so that everyone easily gets. “The one with Pinocchio on it” just won’t cut it if you want to win Dixit.
Dixit: Disney Edition is fully compatible with other editions of the game, allowing you to run both Disney and non-Disney cards together for an even bigger and more varied game. Of course, this is a limited-edition collectible for Disney’s 100th anniversary, so you can also play it as a standalone experience if you’d rather not shuffle it into the rest of your Dixit collection.
Artist Natalie Dombois’ illustrations for this release are some of the finest Dixit has ever released, with a vibrant and sharp style, but still keeping with Dixit’s famous dreamlike quality. Disney fans are going to love the deep cuts here, as not only are there the big ones like Toy Story and Encanto, there are cards based on some of Disney’s more obscure movies, like Pete’s Dragon and The Aristocats.
Even the game pieces themselves are a treat for collectors, with abstract depictions of The Cheshire Cat, Tinker Bell, Mike Wazowski, Mei Lee, and, of course, Mickey and Minny Mouse. If you like Disney Villainous’s game pieces, chances are you’ll love Dixit: Disney Editions’ just as much.
