There is a surprising amount of customization to be found hidden beneath the surface ofBlasphemous 2, more so than is initially apparent. While you don’t get tons of weapons to experiment with or armor pieces to collect, the Penitent One does have some unique items to play around with.
In addition to Rosary Beads, which are highly defensive and supportive in nature,Altarpieces(which are slotted into the Altar on the Penitent One’s back, naturally) can be found throughout the world. While it may seem like you get simple boosts to your stats and some extra effects from these wooden carvings, your placement of these items can actually unlock some terribly powerful effects.
All Generic Resonances
Basic Damage Buffs
Resonances are created when youplace two specific Altarpieces within the two slots that are next to each otherin your Altar. At the start of the game, you’ll have two unlocked already, so you can activate a Resonance as soon as you get the required Altarpieces. You canunlock more slots by purchasing them from the master sculptor, Montanes, in the City of the Blessed Name.
Once you’ve unlocked all eight slots, you’ll be able to havefour Resonancesactive at the same time.
To kick things off, let’s take a look at the more generic Resonances you can activate in the game.
Every Altarpiece in the game belongs toone of five ‘categories’which are denoted by the pages they appear on when selecting one: Candle, Sword, Skull, Feather, and Ring.
When you placetwo Altarpieces of the same categorywithin the same paired slots in your Altar, you’ll activate a Resonance. You can tell when a Resonance is activated as a symbol will appear between their icons. The effects of this Resonance depend on the category.
Two Feather Altarpieces
Increases the damage dealt by any elemental attacks.
The final page of Altarpieces has no category and thus does not have a Resonance associated with them.

Complex Spell Effects
As opposed to the generic Resonances above, there are20 Altarpiece Resonancesin the game that require the use of specific Altarpieces together.
These Altarpiece combos are very powerful, playstyle-changing, and provide the stepping stones to overcome the hardest challenges in the game.
If you’re worried about some of these Resonances using theAltarpieces that are consumed when you go for the true ending, don’t worry! None of these Resonances utilize those Altarpieces.
The Ecstatic Novice

Dodging summons a barrier of thorns that damages and pierces enemies.
The Selfless Father
The Thurifer
When Veredicto is in its active state (i.e. on fire), Fervor consumption is reduced to zero.
The Anointed One
The Purified One
Some of Veredicto’s hits will now create bursts of damaging fire.
The Demented One
The Partisan
Killing a foe during Ruego Al Alba’s Blood Pact is active will renew the feature’s duration.
The Punished One
The Tempest
Ruego Al Alba’s Blood Pact feature also imbues the weapon with lightning damage.
The Scribe
Drinking a Bile Flask will also recover a good amount of Fervor.
The Flagellant
The Woman of the Stolen Face
Changes certain prayers to deal more damage: affected prayers include Galera of the Living Briar and Serrana of the Kindled Hearth.
The Confessor
Increases the damage dealt by Veredicto’s fire attacks, scaling with guilt accrued.
The Veteran One
Increases the damage dealt by Sarmiento & Centella’s lightning attacks, scaling with guilt accrued.
Increases the damage dealt by Ruego Al Alba’s Mystical Blood Pact attacks, scaling with guilt accrued.
The Guide
Ruego Al Alba’s Reaper Rosary attack launches a cutting wave that causes Mystical damage.
The Pilgrim
Drinking a Bile Flask regenerates all of Sarmiento & Centella’s Verdadera Destreza markers.
Sarmiento & Centella’s Verdadera Destreza now does Mystical damage and Sacred Lunge becomes a new attack.
Trifón
When struck, creates a barrier of damaging thorns around the Penitent One.
Veredicto’s flames are replaced with toxic clouds of Miasma.
When choosing which Altarpieces to equip,don’t get blinded by fancy Resonances- having four separate Resonances may not be as powerful than a more focused build that revolves around one or two Resonances with single Altarpieces that provide more relevant bonuses.

The Game Kitchen’s sequel to 2019’s Blasphemous takes place exactly after the events of that game’s DLC. The Penitent One has to traverse an entirely new world filled with intimidating monsters that not only pack an incredible punch but are also horrifying. A side-scrolling Metroidvania with Soulslike combat, Blasphemous 2 walks the line between action and horror.
