The Lunar Subterrane is a level 90 dungeon inFinal Fantasy 14, added in patch 6.5. After creating a veritable spear of light by harnessing the power of the flood in the First through the Crystal Tower, you and your allies were able to open a crater into Golbez’s layer.
Your mission here is twofold: stop Golbez from invading the Source, and rescue Vrtra’s sister. To do this, you’ll need to fight your way through Golbez’s army of Voidsent. Below, we’ll take a look at how to defeat every boss in the Lunar Subterrane, including each of their attacks and mechanics.
You can unlock the Lunar Subterrane through the following quest.
You can re-enter this area by interacting with the Gate to the Red Moon in Mare Lamentorum (X:19.3, Y:29.3).
Dungeon Walkthrough
The layout of the Lunar Subterrane is fairly standard as far as dungeons go. Expect the usual trash mob packs followed by boss encounters.
Like other dungeons, you can practice clearing the Lunar Subterrane withTrust members. These party members willalways complete the mechanics of each boss fight correctly, which can make learning each encounter easier.
Dark Elf
The first boss of the Lunar Subterrane is the Dark Elf
Hexing Staves
Summon
The Dark Elf will summontwo to three Stavesaround the arena. Then, the boss will castRuinous Confluence.
Ruinous Confluence
AoE
The Hexing Staves will reappear before dealing damage in across AoE shape. Getting hit by this attack will inflictDoom, which will instantly kill you once the Doom debuff timer expires. You’ll also be inflicted with astack of Dark Whispers, whichreduces the timer ofDoomwith each stack.
Shadowy SIgil
The Dark Elf will create agrid of two types of symbols, triangles and squares. Depending on thesymbol floating around the boss, the corresponding grid panels on the ground willexplode.
Sorcerous Shroud
Special
This ability will cause the Staves summoned from Hexing Staves todisappear after a few moments. Take note of the Stave’s positions to avoid the upcomingRuinous Confluence.
Void Dark II
AoE Markers
Targets each player with anAoE marker. Spread out from each other toavoid overlapping these AoE markers, but keep the positions of the hidden Staves in mind to avoid Ruinous Confluence.
Staff Smite
Tankbuster
Dealshigh damage to the Tank. Use defensive cooldowns to mitigate this attack, and have the Healer be prepared to restore lost health.
Roomwide AoE
Deals damage toall party members. Recover with AoE healing.
The Dark Elf will continue this rotation of attacks until it is defeated. It’s important to note thatDoom will instantly kill you, and should beimmediately cleansed with Esunaif a player is inflicted with it. While Doom can be cleaned, the debuffDark Whispers can’t, so be careful when taking repeated Doom-inflicting attacks.
Damcyan Antlion
The second boss of the Lunar Subterrane is the Damcyan Antlion. On either side of the arena arefour Stone Pillarsthat you’ll need to keep track of during the fight.
Sandblast
The Damcyan Antlion will deal damage toall party membersbefore covering thefront and back of the arena in sand. This will dealdamage over timeif you stand in it.
Landslip
The Damcyan Antlion will createfour columns of shifting sand, preparing tomove you in the indicated direction; either forward or back.
Antlion March
The Damcyan Antlion will indicate that it is about tocharge around the arena, dealing damage inseveral line AoEsand knocking intotwo of the stone pillarson either side of the arena. While moving to avoid the line AoEs,take note of the stone pillars that are struck.
Earthen Geyser
Stack Marker/AoE
Target one player with aStack marker. Group up on the targeted player’s position to spread out the damage of this attack. A large circle ofquicksand will then appear in this area, drasticallyreducing movement speed. Quickly run out of the quicksand to avoid the Damcyan Antlion’s next attack,Pound Sand.
Pound Sand
The Damcyan Antlion will deal damage in acircle AoE near the quicksand. After escaping the quicksand, move away from the area to avoid Pound Sand.
The Damcyan Antlion will repeat these attacks until it is defeated. This fight will actually becomeeasier over time, as you will have fewer stone pillars to worry about as the boss destroys them.
Old Magic
Durante will deal damage toall party members. Recover with AoE healing.
Duplicitous Battery
Durante will createtwo sets of circle AoEsin aspiral pattern. Before the first set explodes, the second will appear, so you’ll need toremember the position of bothbefore avoiding them.
Forsaken Fount
Summon/AoE
The first time Durante uses this attack, he will createfour orbs in a linethat will explode inpoint-blank circle AoEsafter a short delay.
Fallen Grace
Targets each player with anAoE marker. Spread out to avoid taking unnecessary damage. This attack will occur from thesecond use ofDuplicitous Battery, forcing you tomove away from other playerswhile remembering the positions of the circle AoEs.
Contrapasso
Deals damage toall party membersbefore splitting the currently activeForsaken Fountorbs in two.
Antipodal Assault
Stack Marker
Durante will target one player with aline Stack marker. Group up with the affected player to spread out the damage of this attack. Durante will then charge through the Stack marker to theedge of the arenabefore preparingHard Slash.
Hard Slash
This attack is alarge conal AoE to Durante’s front, used immediately after Antipodal Assault. After stacking,run towards Durantethen step to either side to avoid the large AoE.
Twilight Phase
Shadow claws will appear around Durante in two lines. Acolumn AoE will appear perpendicular to the direction the claws are arching toward, so run behind them to avoid taking damage.
Dark Impact
Durante will target an area with alarge circle AoEindicated by aline pointing to the ground. Run to theopposite side of the areato avoid this attack.
Death’s Journey
Durante will create aseries of purple linesin a circle around himself. After a short delay, these lines will explode to either side, creatingcone-shaped AoEs.Stand equally in between two linesto avoid taking damage.
Arcane Edge
Dealshigh damage to the Tank. Use defensive cooldowns to reduce the damage of Arcane Edge,
Durante will repeat these attacks until he is defeated. The main attacks to watch out for areDuplicitous Batteryand theAntipodal Assault into Hard Slash combo, as these can quickly deal a lot of damage if you aren’t careful.
