Square Enix has revealed during a keynote atFinal Fantasy 14Fan Festival in London that the newest job coming to Dawntrail is a duel-wielding class called Viper.

Final Fantasy 14 is currently holding its latest Fan Festival in London, allowing fans of the game to meet up and celebrate the series with one another. As great as the chance to meet other players is, the highlight of the Fan Festivals for everyone stuck at home is the keynote, which always has a bunch of new announcements for FF14. London’s Fan Festival is no different, as it was just revealed that the next job being added to the game is a dual-wielding class named Viper that’s completely original to Final Fantasy 14.

During the keynote, a new trailer was showcased that showed Meteor wearing a new hooded outfit that is very pirate-esque and wielding two swords at once. As they slash away with the blades, it’s revealed that the two swords can combine in the middle to make a longer, double-sided blade.

The footage shown of the Viper class highlights that its two blades are focused on hitting enemies with fast attacks, and that stronger hits are dealt with the combined blade. We also see the Viper class power up to deliver some attacks that are so fast they look like Meteor is teleporting, making quick work of the poor Malboro that he’s fighting.

Over on Twitter, the official Final Fantasy 14 account shared a caption alongside the gameplay footagethat confirms the gameplay style of the Viper class, noting that they “dual wield twin blades to pressure enemies with swift strikes and deal mighty blows with their joined blades!”.

What’s especially interesting about the Viper class is that it’s completely original to Final Fantasy 14, unlike most of the other jobs in the game, which are based on roles introduced in other Final Fantasy games. The only other two jobs that are nearly original are Astrologion and Reaper, although they’re based on the Astrologer class and enemy type respectively.

The reveal of the Viper class does sadly deconfirm some of thetheories that fans had about Green Mages joining the game in Dawntrail. After the release of Patch 6.5, fans thought that the focus on a green clover and mentions of “the golden land” (which is a clear hint towards Dawntrail) were signs that a Green Mage class would be added in the expansion, but it seems to have been a red herring as the Viper job doesn’t line up with those hints.
