The wait is over, we finally know who’s playing Vincent Valentine inFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Confirming the news himself at New York Comic Con, Matt Mercer is playing the fan-favourite companion, as he joins the story in the sequel.
It’s not clear if we’ll get to hear his voice in action at Comic-Con, so we’re staying tuned to see if a new trailer is revealed. But at the very least, it’s some news on everyone’s favourite immortal bad boy, after months of making do with crumbs.
Mercer just dropped the news at Comic-Con and was met with applause and cheers from fans attending the panel. This isn’t too surprising, as we’ve been waiting for news on Vincent Valentine’s inclusion in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth for some time. But even as a fan favourite - or perhaps because of this -Square Enixkept us waiting.
We’ve already heard a line of dialogue from Vincent, and many had guessed Mercer would be stepping into the role based on that alone. We don’t have more examples of Mercer’s take on Vincent to listen to just yet, but that should change soon enough. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is set to be with us on August 02, 2025, which - believe it or not - isn’t a million miles away anymore. That should mean trailers aplenty soon, perhaps even a demo. The next big opportunity if Comic-Con doesn’t give us anything new would likely beThe Game Awards, particularly if Square Enix is set on sticking to this early 2024 release date.
It seems that Mercer has a talent for bagging iconic roles that have been recast, as he also got the role of Minsc inBaldur’s Gate 3, replacing Jim Cummings. He’s not a surprising pick for either of these roles, as it seems that you find him in basically every game in some form.
In any case, this is a much more positive reveal than another recent bit of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth news. Earlier this month, the official Twitter account made the bizarre decision to announce thatCait Sith will be pronounced “Kate Sihth”, not “Ket Shee”, as it is in Scottish and Irish Gaelic. This caused some controversy, but given how far long the game is in development, we’re almost definitely not going to see this change before launch.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be available exclusively for PlayStation 5 at launch, possibly with a PC port further down the line like its predecessor.
