Fortnite’s long-rumouredDoctor Whocrossover looks like it’s going through some trouble, as a reliable insider has reported that it’s currently “completely on hold”.

Over the years, we’ve heard about a ton of rumours about Fortnite crossovers that simply haven’t ended up happening yet, such as Family Guy, Metroid, and more, but perhaps the longest-winded one is Doctor Who. Back in 2022,Fortnite actually did have a crossover with Doctor Who through an event in Creative mode, butdataminers and leakers have suggested that something much bigger has been in the works for some time.

That crossover, according to reliable insider iFireMonkey, was apparently supposed to be a two-week-long event (such as the ones that went live for Dragon Ball and My Hero Academia) that would feature several free rewards for completing challenges, as well as a number of item shop cosmetics like skins, pickaxes, a glider, and an emote.

At the time, there wasn’t a release date or window put forward for this crossover, but considering most of the details had seemingly been worked out and that we’d been hearing about it for such a long time, it seemed like it wasn’t very far off at all. As it turns out, however, it looks like the crossover is going through quite a bit of trouble.

That’s according to Twitter user and reliable Fortnite insider FNBRintel, who shared an update on the Doctor Who crossover earlier today. In a lengthy tweet, they reported that they’ve heard the collaboration is “completely on hold” right now due to higher-ups (presumably at BBC and not Epic) not being happy about the anniversary content not lining up with the show’s timeline if the crossover happened in December or January.

Presumably, this complaint comes from BBC’s side, who wouldn’t be too happy if the crossover content came out in December or January, which would be between one-and-two months later than the 60th-anniversary specials that are currently set for November. According to the tweet, the original crossover was intended for the first quarter of 2024, which would indeed be a bit later than the anniversary special is set to air.

It seems that Epic is working on a solution, though. According to the tweet, all of the event pass, limited-time challenges, creative experiences, and attendance rewards are being reworked to “reinvent any unnecessary content”. This seems to suggest that Epic is trying to cut down on some of the extra work that needs to be done for the crossover to make sure that the team has enough time to get it out before the crossover is outdated.
