There are a lot of debuffs that come with becoming encumbered. It can negatively affect your gameplay, so it’s important to understand all the different ways you may avoid your backpack becoming too heavy. Ready to get rid of encumbrance? Keep reading to find out how.

What Is Encumbrance?
There are two levels to encumbrancein Baldur’s Gate 3. You first become encumbered. If you continue to take on weight, you will becomeheavily encumbered.
Becoming encumbered in Baldur’s Gate 3 willdecrease your movement speed.
Slower speed is debilitating if you are encumbered during battle, where movement speed is needed to act in a fight.
Encumbrance will alsodecreaseyourJumpdistance. Jump may not be something you always use, so it is the lesser of two evils when it comes to the negative effects of encumbrance.

Heavily-Encumbered decreases your movement speed even moreanddisables the ability to Jumporclimb. It will also give youmajor disadvantageson attack rolls, saving throws, and ability checks. Basically, it makes it impossible for you to fight or escape.
With these negative effects,you won’t be able to walk anywhere or escape anything,any time soon. Baldur’s Gate 3 is a big open-world game, the last thing you need is to be slow-mo walking everywhere you go.

How To Get Rid Of Encumbered
Now that you’re missing the agility and speed that comes from being free from your horde of treasures, let’s discover how to get rid of encumbrance.
Increase Strength
The higher your Strength stat, the more items you are able to carry at once. If you haven’t chosenaStrength-heavy classsuch as a Barbarian or a Fighter,you can still increase your Strength in different ways.The first is by reclassing with Withers at camp.
The second is by acquiringHill Giant Strength potions. These potions willtemporarily increase the consumer’s Strength by 21. Hill Giant potions can be looted in the world or purchased from merchants like Auntie Ethel.

Some weapons or armor may increase the user’s Strength when equipped.The Mighty Clothis a piece of armor that increases the wearer’s Strength anywhere from two-20.The Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strengthare gloves that increase the wearer’s Strength to 23.
Lastly, as you progress through the game you will come across rare items that allow you topermanently increase a stat of your choice.
An item that’ll let you raise your strength stat isAuntie Ethel’s Hair, which is a reward for subduing The Hag and letting her go in Act One.
Send Items To Camp
you’re able to right-click some objects in the world to Send To Camp. When alternatively selecting an item either in your inventory or in the world, you can send it to a companion’s inventory, inspect the item to view its stats, or send it to camp.
When you send items to camp,they will immediately enter your Traveler’s Chest, which has a bottomless pit. Valuable or interesting armor or items can be put directly into storage so that you do not have to carry them wherever you go.
This will also prevent you from having to manually go back to camp and access your storage to put stuff in it.
Distribute Items Between Party Members
Your best bet in a pinch, when you want to sell stuff at the next merchant, is togive all heavy items to your party members. Your party members probably have the emptiest inventories if you aren’t stocking them with health potions and scrolls to use in battle.
In fact, when you are finished with a fight, you should control a companion and start looting with them, so that your main character does not become encumbered with all their important gadgets and gizmos.
Allweapons and armor can be given to characters like Lae’zel or Karlach because they have high Strengthdue to their class.
