We think there’s still a way to get a decent bang for your buck with them without spending hundreds of hours, and that’s especially true withStarfield, which isn’t necessarily the BGS game you might think it is. Here’s how long a main quest run will take you, and we’ll go into the amount of time you’d need for the rest, in case you’re curious!
How Long Does It Take To Complete Starfield’s Main Story?
According toHLTB, the current running estimate for the length of Starfield’s main story is21 hours. Now, there are some caveats to bear in mind here. First, we’re writing this article a day after the game’s pre-release early access launch. To say we have limited data points right now would be an understatement.
There’s also our own anecdotal experience to consider - otherwise, why should we be the ones telling you all this? In our experience, Starfield’s main story lasts closer to30 hours. Where will you land? Somewhere in-between? Perhaps, perhaps. Either way, we think Starfield’s main quests are pretty good, and some of the best Bethesda’s done in a long time.

How Long Does It Take To Complete Every Faction Story?
Answering this oneincludes the Constellation faction, which is Starfield’s main story. We’re combining that withthe four optional factions you’re able to join. If you’re wondering what factions even are, and you’ve played a Bethesda RPG previously - think the Thieves Guild, the Companions, the Railroad, that sort of thing.
We’ve foundeach of the four optional factions tends to last around ten hours. Again, pretty impressive, all things considered. As a result, our combined answer to this query is 25 (let’s meet HLTB’s early readings and our own experience roughly down the middle) plus four instances of 10, giving us a nice65 hours.
If you do little else besides the main quests and the factions' quests, you’ve essentially hit upon most of the meticulously crafted stuff in Starfield, so you should feel satisfied. You’re still missing plenty, however…
How Long Does It Take To 100 Percent Starfield?
We’d be lying if we said we have any firsthand answers to this one just yet. Several of us are deeply invested in Starfield, but none of us have managed to doliterally everythingthere is to do in the game. Hey, cut us some slack - this is Bethesda we’re talking about here.
And yet thereareearly postings on HowLongToBeat, and they’re about as big as one might expect:a completionist Starfield run is presently listed at 203 hours. Will that go down when millions are playing, rather than maybe tens of thousands? Will it, dare we ask, go up? Considering perennial favorite Skyrim is listed on there at 231, we won’t be surprised if it does, especially as expansions get released.
