Early on inBaldur’s Gate 3, players may find themselves facing down an iconic monster of Faerun—a hag. Hags are tricky fey creatures, and Auntie Ethel embodies with her illusions and lies. When all else fails, she’ll attempt to bait you into her hidden lair where tons of deadly traps lay in wait.

After fighting your way through charmed thralls, you’ll find yourself facing a field of Noxious Fumes. Besides being explosively deadly, they can chip at your health and leave you weakened for future fights. These noxious fumes are also found in various caves in the Underdark, so learning how to circumvent them will be vital to your travels.
How To Disable Noxious Fumes
Luckily,disabling these deadly trapsis quite simple.
Once you get close enough to these fumes, your party will begin to makePerception checks. Successful checks willreveal rocky crevices, labeled as “Vents” which are the sources of each cloud of Noxious Fumes.
Once you’ve seen these vents, simply go into your inventory and look fora piece of junk that you no longer want—aScrapwood ShieldorGoblin Scimitarwill work nicely.Throw this item onto the vent, and the cloud of Noxious Fumes should quickly dissipate.

Ensure that what you throwisn’t breakable, as the thrown damage might break it and render it useless, letting the fumes continue to escape.
Unfortunately, there are rare patches of Noxious Fumes that don’t have aclearly visible vent.

In these cases, you’ll need to stand far away from the cloud andignite them with a fire spell or torch. The fumes will explode, clearing the path momentarily so that you can eithersee the Vent, orquickly pass throughafter dousing the flames.
