InLords of the Fallen, there are many instances where you get progression blockers in the form of boss fights. Similar to theRuiner bossin the game, there are tough encounters that are optional, and beating these bosses is not a mandatory step to unfold the story.
One such optional boss in Lords of the Fallen is Crimson Rector Percival, who may seem like a harmless fellow but actually hits very hard and summons specters as surprise attacks. Therefore, knowing this boss’s attack patterns and strategies is half battle won.
Crimson Rector Percival Boss Attack Patterns
Crimson Rector Percival Boss is anoptional encounterin Lords of the Fallen. The boss can be found while exploring the early parts ofFitzroy’s Gorge. Even though Crimson Rector Percival is an optional boss, hehits hardand has tons of tricks up his sleeve.
For starters, the boss’s sword inflictsphysicalandbleed damage. The bleed damage will trigger as soon as the bar maxes out, causing your character’s health to drain with time.
On top of that, when the boss’s health dropsbelow 50 percent, he will start usingRadiance magicto buff his sword. After that point, Crimson Rector Percival’s sword will dealphysical, bleed, and holydamage for as long as the buff lasts.
First Phase
During the first phase of Crimson Rector Percival’s boss fight, the common sight will be thecharged sword stab. This mostly happens if the boss is spaced at amedium or long-rangerange - he will try to close the gap faster with this attack.
Once he is close, expect the boss tosummon a specterthat lands anoverhead sword attack. This basically mimics the boss’s attack, which means it can be dodged easily.
Occasionally, the boss will land a jumping sword pound attack. This attack is slow and deals massive damage. The best course of action here will be to dodge it and get out of harm’s way.
While Crimson Rector Percival’s specter summoning is mainly tocatch you off guard, sometimes the boss will surprise you by calling a second specter right after the first attack has landed. The summoned specter will deal with asword swing attackthat is also slow and can be dodged.
Therefore, do not be reckless and go for the boss after he has finished his combo. Be quick about it, deal a quick two-hit combo, and retreat before the boss summons specters.
Second Phase
The second phase of Crimson Rector Percival in Lords of the Fallen occurs when his healthfalls beyond 50 percent. During this stage, most of his attacks remain the same, but there are also a few new additions. He alsogains aggroand always tries to close the gap should he stay at a distance.
The move that gives away the starting of Crimson Rector Percival boss fight’s second phase is the healing spell. The boss casts a Radiance magic healing spell that replenishes his health at a faster rate.
Attacking the boss frequently willnot break his spellas it lasts forfive to seven secondsand, during this time, continuously heals the boss.
Another moveset that Crimson Rector Percival introduces during the second phase of the boss fight is when hebuffs his long swordwith magic. It is after this point that the boss weapon starts dealingphysical, bleed, and holy damage. Therefore, it becomes imperative to dodge all of his long sword attacks, or else you will soon run out of Sanguinarix.
Lastly, during the second phase of the boss fight, if you try to be hasty and get close to the boss every now and then, Crimson Rector Percival willcast an AoE spellthat will knock you back and deal damage.
Crimson Rector Percival Boss Fight Strategy
The best course of action to employ during Crimson Rector Percival boss fight is tobuff your weaponsusing anyelemental damage. The boss is especiallyweak against fire, so usingfire saltsor any spell that offersfire damagewill be helpful.
Heavy weapon users will not have enough room to landthree of four combohits as the boss summons specters as soon as you hit him with one ortwo hits. On the other hand,light weapon userscan extend the combo to multiple hits before Crimson Rector Percival can summon his specters.
During the second phase, the boss casts magic spells thatrestore his lost health. There are at least a few seconds until the spells get triggered, so use acharged attack to interruptthe spell casting.
Using the Umbral Lamp and destroying entities near the boss will also stagger or interrupt his spell-casting.
