Sonic Superstarshas many Stages and boss encounters spread throughout its Story Mode, offering unique mechanics that will put your platforming skills to the test. Lagoon City is one such Stage, except it provides one of the easiest boss encounters in the entire game and one of the more challenging ones in your adventure.
Nonetheless, there are tricks and strategies you may apply to even more challenging encounters that will make things much more manageable, making Lagoon City one of the easier Stages in the grand scheme of things. Still, if you aren’t prepared, your work will be cut out for you.

Perhaps one of theeasiest bossesto take down since the very first ‘tutorial boss’ back in the Bridge Island Stage is theJellyfishinLagoon City,as you quite literally only need to activate one move to defeat it!
Avatar Chaos Emerald Ability = Win
As soon as the encounter begins, the Jellyfish willsummon a sea of waterbugs above youthat you canjump at to destroy and clear space.After this attack is launched and you’re safe from the bugs,activateyourAvatar Chaos Emerald Ability to defeat the Jellyfishin a few seconds.
Theonslaught of Clones will stunlock the Jellyfish, enabling them to land all the necessary hits to destroy it,giving you a swift victory in mere seconds. As mentioned earlier, this is one of the most effortless encounters in the entire game if you utilize this method!

Now that the Jellyfish is out of the way, it’s time to move on to the more challenging encounter of the two, and that’s yet another showdown withDoctor Robotnik.This fight will have you fighting for your lifeunderwaterfor a decent portion, so be prepared to gatherAir Bubbles and Ringsto survive allfour phases!
All Phases: Underwater Platforming
Afterlanding a hiton Doctor Robotnik, he willfire Missiles into the walls above, causing water to flood the areabelow, forcing you toplatform back up to Robotnik through the water.Here, you mustcollect Air Bubbles to keep from drowning,which will always be generated nearby!
All Phases: Whirlpool
If youtake too long during the platforming section,Robotnik will drop a large rotating blade deep into the water, violently spinning the water andcreating a whirlpool.This willbring you above the water near Robotnik,enabling you toessentially get a free hiton him.
Phase One: Lightning Orbs
During thefirst underwater platformingsection,Robotnik will periodically fire off agroup of four Lightning Orbs,forcing you to dodge them on your way up.Try getting in the gap between the Orbs,let them pass you, then jump to the platform above youand repeat until you reach the surface!
Phase One: Surface Attack
Once you’ve reached thesurface,you will seetwo platforms,one on the right and another on the left.Jump onto eitherof them, thenuse it to jump into the bottom of Robotnik’s machine to damage him,causing him to shift into his second phase!
Phase Two: Water Drills
On your way up to Robotnik during thesecond underwater platforming section,he will launchWater Drillsat you. Thepropellers on the Water Drills cause a slight updraft,enabling you touse the force to boost you higher in the waterto reach the elevated platforms.
Thisplatforming section is rough,and itmay be easier to collect Air Bubbles and let the Whirlpool bring you to the surface.Nonetheless, these are your options for getting back to Robotnik!
Phase Two: Surface Attack
When arriving at the top,use the platforms to jump into the bottom of Robotnik’s machineyet again to damage him, bringing him slightly closer to defeat than before!
Phase Two: Repeat
After that, thenext portion is the exact sameas what you just did:Use the propellerson theWater Drillstoreach the higher platformsor let the Whirlpool bring you to the top, thenjump into the bottom of Robotnik’s machineto damage him further!
Phase Three: Missiles
Following the repeated phase two strategy,phase threewill finally begin, this time having Robotnik launchlarge heat-seeking Missilesat you thatexplode into tiny missiles on impact,which also explode and deal considerable damage.
Have theMissiles guide to you in such a way they will collide with the bottom of the platform you’re standing on,thenquickly move to the next highest platformto avoid the tinier ones. Don’t forget togather Air Bubblesor about theWhirlpoolthat canbypass this entire bit!
Phase Three: Surface Attack
At the top,you already know what to do by now:use the platforms to jump into the bottom of the machine Robotnik is piloting,causing him to takesignificant damagecausing him to move into the fourth and final phase!
Phase Four: Avatar Chaos Emerald Ability
Lastly, thefourth and final phasehas Robotnik change things up a bit andmove to the right,causing you toshift into a whole new area.However, we have a trick up our sleeve to counter this, and that’s our trustyAvatar Chaos Emerald Ability.
Activate the Avatar Chaos Emerald Abilityas soon as you enter the new roomwith Robotnik. Thewave of Clones will keep him in place, delivering all the hits neededto destroy his fancy new machine, clearing the Lagoon City Stage!
