Tyranitar and thePokemon TCGaren’t good friends. Whenever Tyranitar gets a card, it’s more of a second-tier card unsuitable for high-level competitive matches. This is the main reason why this Tyranitar ex Deck is so special.

While there are decks with better overall stats out there, Tyranitar ex is one of the best Tera cards out there because of its massive amount of HP and his powerful attacks, and it’s also in a striking deck because it uses not-so-common and situational cards that have a hard fit elsewhere.

Tyranitar Ex Deck Key Cards
Tyranitar ex, with a light bulb on its head, isn’t the only one shining in this deck. In reality, this deck requires a lot of key cards to make the whole system work.
Tyranitar Ex
Tyranitar ex will be your main offensive Pokemon. It’s an Electric-type cardthatneeds Fighting-type Energy to attack.Hence, you don’t need Electric Energy cards on your deck to make it work.
Tyranitar has two attacks. The first one isMountain Hurl, which costs a single Fighting Energy card, deals 120 damage, and forces you todiscard the top two cards of your deck.

But the attack you’ll be using the most isLightning Rampage, whichdeals 150 damageand willdeal 100 more if one of your Benched Pokemon has any damage counter on it.
250 damageisn’t enoughto take any VSTAR or VMAX card down on the current meta. you’re able to’t even take this same Tyranitar down with only 250 damage. So,the objective with this card is always to hit first. It’s also a criticalcounter against Pidgeot ex,which sees a lot of play in the Scarlet & Violet era.

Choice Belt
TheChoice Beltis an all-important card in this deck, asit’ll make Tyranitar ex reach 280 damage, which is enough to take a VMAX down with a single hit.
This is because if you suit Tyranitar ex with a Choice Belt, its attacks will deal 30 more damage than usual. You need this card if you want to hit hard with Tyranitar, and the match can get messy without it.

Tyranitar
Tyranitar also has a Dark-type card, andit’s superb to deal with Psychic-type deckslike Gardevoir ex or Mew VMAX. And as this deck doesn’t have Dark-type Energy cards, you’ll be using the Luminous Energy cards to attack with this card.
This Tyranitar’s main attack isRout, whichdeals 30 damage, plus 30 for each of your opponent’s benched Pokemon. If your opponent has a full bench, this card will deal 180 damage, which isn’t bad.It can reach 210 damagewith a Choice Belt equipped.

This Dark-type Tyranitar also hasDread Mountain, whichdeals 230 damagebut forces you todiscard the top four cards of your deck.
While it looks like a great idea to use this move to defeat a powerful Gardevoir ex or a chunky Mew VMAX, in reality, you’ll be risking a lot by discarding four cards in one go.Only use this card to attack Psychic-types. Rout can potentially deal 420 damage, more than enough to defeat any Psychic-type card.

Lucario
As Tyranitar ex needs Fighting-type Energy cards to attack, using Lucario in this deck is a great idea. you’re able to expectmirror matchesor matches against decks likeMiraidon ex, sothis card is excellent in said situations.
Lucario’s only attacks withAura Sphere Volley, which deals 10 damage plus an additional 60 foreach Fighting-type Energy card attached to it.After that, you mustdiscard all the Fighting-type Energy cardsattached to it.

But that’s not all, as Lucario will alsolet you triggerTyranitar ex’sLightning Rampage extra Damagewith its ability,Roaring Resolve. With Roaring Resolve, you can search on your deck andattach a Fighting-type Energy card on Lucario. If you do,you must put two damage counters on it.
Manaphy And Cleffa
These two cards will support you while you build your Tyranitar to attack. In Manaphy’s case,it’ll be a protection against Radiant Greninja, who can damage your benched Pokemon in the match’s early stages. If you build a couple of Larvitar cards and a Radiant Greninja comes in and sweeps them out, you’ll lose no matter what, so Manaphy is vital.
On the other hand, Cleffa is a card thathelps you get more cards in your hand when you’re running low.Cleffa only has a move, Grasping Draw, whichdoesn’t cost any Energyand lets you draw cards from your deck until you have seven. You can retreat this card at no cost, so you can freely use it whenever you need.

Bibarel And Skwovet
These two cards will work as your engine to draw cards.Bibarelcanlet you draw cards until you have fiveon your hand with its ability,Industrious Incisors, whileSkwovetlets you get rid of a lousy hand via its ability,Nest Stash, which lets youshuffle your hand and send it to the bottom of your deck. After that, you can draw a card. These two, combined, will revamp an awful hand in a matter of seconds.
Gapejaw Bog
This stadium is another way totrigger Tyranitar ex’s Lightning Rampage extra damage, as putting a Basic Pokemon on your bench from your hand will force you toattach two damage counters to it.
Basic Item Cards
This deck doesn’t use any over-the-top item cards; you’ll only need the usualNest and Ultra Ballsto draw Pokemon, theSuper Rodto recover fainted Pokemon, theRare Candiesto evolve Larvitar into Tyranitar quickly, and theSwitches and Escape Ropesto retreat a Pokemon at no cost.
The same goes for the trainers;Boss Ordersis pretty common, as it lets you change your opponent’s Active Pokemon, whileColress and Ionolet you draw cards.Iono is especially good to use when you are behind in the match.

Professor Research lets you change a lousy hand for a good one, like Skwovet, andRaihanlets you suit a new card after the previous one fainted in battle.

Tyranitar Ex Deck Strategy
You must be very aggressiveand use your resources to attack your opponent’s deck; if you are against aPidgeot ex or a Water-typedeck, go forTyranitar ex.If you are againstMew VMAXorGardevoir ex, go forTyranitar.UseLucarioagainstMiraidon ex, a mirror match, or Arceus.
On your first turn, your aim is to look for the basic Pokemon of the Pokemon you’ll use to attack. If you’ll use Lucario, search for Riolu. If you use Tyranitar, look for Larvitar. You also need tolook for a Bidoof and a Skwovet;having them soon in the match is important as you’ll need an engine to draw more cards.

The rest is simple:evolve the Pokemon you chose to attack and attack with it.If you need more cards, use Skwovet and then Bibarel. Butbe careful with what you do; you must be precise with your switches and the cards you discard or toss at the Lost Zone with Colress. With this strategy, you’ll drain your cards from your deck very fast, so it’s important toattack constantlyand as fast as you can.
Tyranitar Ex Common Threats
The main issue this deck has is its consistency. The Bibarel and Skwovet engine isn’t sometimes enough to draw a specific card you need to keep playing, and as you need to be ready to attack on turn two, you need a bit of luck on your first turn.
If you want more consistency in drawing the Pokemon you need on turn one,you can change Colress Experiment for Battle VIP Pass. The downside is that you need a card to help you find the Battle VIP Pass. If that’s the case, you can use a Mew from Crown Zenith for Cleffa, which will help you find the Battle VIP Pass.
