With several of these characters, you are able to recruit them to your crew and have them follow you around as a companion. While each of these characters have their own base style, you may want to switch up their outfits or gear from time to time. Here is what you need to do to change your companion’s gear.
How To Find The Companion Gear Menu
Find the companion whose gear you want to change andtalk to them. Select the dialogue option,“Let’s trade gear.”
This will automatically open up to allthe current items your companion has in their inventory. Right off the bat, it will usually just be their weapon and some ammo. you may choose to take these if you want.
When youcycle through using the “Inventory” button, you’ll be able to seeyour own inventory,your ship’s inventory(if you are in or nearby your ship), and thenyour companion’s inventory.
You cantransfer items here between your inventory and your companion’s. Find the item you want to give to your companion, thenpress the “Trade” keybindingto put into their inventory. Cycle into their inventory, and you canselect the appropriate items you want them to have equipped.
The “Equip” keybinding in your companion menu will likelybe different from your normal “Equip” keybinding.
Tips For Using Your Companion’s Inventory
As youexplore Starfield’s wide array of planetsand moons, there is no doubtyou will find yourself over-encumbered at some point.If youlet a companion tag along with youon your adventures,they can operate temporarily as a pack mule, for lack of a better term.
Simplymove all your extra items to your companion’s inventory. They can carry your extra belongings until you want to get them back.
If you find yourself far away from your ship or a point of interest, and youcannot fast travel due to being over-encumbered, this can bea great workaround.
