Whether it’s turning a cozy suburban home into a bustling commercial venue or transforming an empty plot into a vibrant community hotspot, the ability to change lot types brings forth a lot of exciting creative and gameplay possibilities for you and your Sims.

There are plenty of different lot types that you can transform existing residential lots into, such as building a bar, lounge, library, or even a museum. Read on, and we’ll take you through the necessary steps to convert an existing lot type into another.

Eligible Lots And Exceptions

Before we begin, it’s essential to know that allplayable community and residential lots can have their lot type changed, with the oneexception being the secret lots.

Whether it’s a pre-built home or a completely empty lot, you have the freedom toswitch between residential and commercial lots and vice versa.

You can only change the lot type if the lot is empty. If there’s a household currently residing on the lot you want to modify, you’ll have to move them out via the phone or manage worlds map first.

Starting The Transformation

To begin changing the lot type,enter Build mode from the Map Viewof the Sims World.

Once you’re in Build mode, look to the upper left corner of your screen to find ahouse icon with an ‘i’ in the middle.

Click on it and awindow will open displaying information about your lot,including its type, price, dimensions, bedrooms, and bathrooms.

The size of the lot cannot be changed. If you envision building a massive, multistory retail park, you’ll need to build one in a lot with enough space to accommodate it.

The prerequisite furniture and amenities for the Library lot type

Click on the lot type and adrop-down menu will appearpresenting all the available lot types in The Sims 4.

You’ll find a variety of options,ranging from residential lots to community venues including gyms, nightclubs, and even wedding venues.

Commercial Lot Type Requirements

You’ll quickly notice that some special lots come with specific requirements.

For instance, if you select ‘Library,’ you’ll need tofulfill certain lot pre-requisites for it to become fully functional and playable.

These prerequisitestypically involve furnishing the lot with specific objects to match the lot’s theme.

In the case for the Library, you’ll need to populate the lot with at leastthree desks and bookshelves, two computers, a chess table, and several more themed furnishings and furniture.

After selecting the desired type,don’t forget to save your changes.

Residential lots have no pre-requisitesand are the only lot types Sims can live in, aside from Apartments (which can’t be changed or designated)
