The Archivist Cartie is one of the more memorable cast members inEndless Dungeon. The small gremlin creature has a thirst for knowledge and an affinity for heavy weapons that make her endearing and fun to explore the station with.

Cartie is also one of the more interesting characters for those interested in Endless lore. Her people, the Harahara, have served the Endless as long as they can remember. The truth of her history is uncovered over the progression of her personal questline, which is also needed to unlock her additional chip slots and costume.

Endless Dungeon’s Bestiary describes the abilities of different Bug Monsters

Quest One: Eliminate 5 Royal Shyness Monsters

Royal Shyness bugs are recognisable on the map aslarge enemy dots that break off from the rest of the swarm. They’ll find a quiet room to hide in and start sending out waves of smaller bugs until you hunt them down. You canwait until the rest of the wave is defeatedand then venture out safely to finish them off, or take a proactive approach andhunt them down before they find a hiding spot.

The quest requires you to defeat five of them on a single run, which should be easily achievable in the process of fully clearing a bug-infested floor.

Endless Dungeon’s Bug Momma faces off against Cartie and Bunker

All the levels available on early playthroughs feature bug enemies, such as theAstral Harbour and Devotion Garden. Both these zones lead into the Labour Colony, which is where the next quest takes place.

Cartie does not need to deal the killing blowfor the quest to progress. As long as the Shyness Bugs are defeated while Cartie is present, it is counted.

Quest Two: Defeat Bug Momma

Bug Momma is one of the three middle bossesof the game and likely the first one you’ll encounter when starting your explorations from the Astral Harbour starting zone. This quest requires you to defeat her while playing as Cartie in online play or with her in your party in single-player mode.

In Single Player, you can aim tocomplete character quests for multiple cast members at once. Sweeper and Bunker both have quests in the Astral Harbour that lead into the Labour Colony where you fight Bug Momma. Shroom has a quest in the Devotional Garden, which also can lead into the Labour Colony.

Endless Dungeon’s Shelldiver is defeated by the crystal bot, defended by Sweeper, Cartie and Shroom

Cartier’s chip ability exterminator can help considerably, allowing her to handily defeat the waves of lesser bugs that accompany the boss.

Otherwise, it’s a matter of slowly and cautiously chipping away at her health while using the cover in the room or the crystal teleport to dodge her acid attacks.Bug Momma has no attacks that can damage the crystalso take your time and the boss can be handily defeated at no risk.

Quest Three: Find Clues In The Life Incubator District

This quest is completed naturally by exploring. The Life Incubator District is a third-floor sector that can be reached from either the Procedural Factory or the Labour Colony. You can pick any first-floor sector to start with butcannot choose the Security Vault as your second-floor.

Travelling through the Procedural Factory may prove an easier time: The boss of that zone, theShelldiver Blob is faced inside a single large chamber. Cartie’s passive boosts all heroes and the crystal in the same room as her, and will be active throughout the entire fight. You can also fight through Bug Momma a second time using the same technique you used previously.

Fully exploring the floor of the Life Incubator District will eventually lead to a readable note that advances the quest. The plot revelations contained within the note are rather heavily implied by other journal entries, but this is the specific point where Cartie makes the connections between her history and the events of the station.

Quest Four: Unlock 6 Upgrades For Your Crystal Bot

This stage of Cartie’s quest is straightforward.Six Crystal Shards requires you to reach the final bossand collect every shard available on the way. Even then there is no guarantee of getting the maximum number of shard drops. There are some methods you can use to speed up the process and tilt the odds in your favour:

This quest can be completed at the same time as other quests that focus on long runs:Shroom’s final queststage requires you to reach the core district, andSweeper’s final questrequires you to reach hero level eight. All three of these quests require a long run but can be completed from any starting district.

Even with a strategy that maximises your chance of gaining shards, it’s still very possible to miss out on this quest due to a poor roll of the dice. Since it can be completed alongside any other quest, the best approach is to keep an eye open for opportunities to complete it while pursuing other objectives.
