InStarfield, you are free to join any group or collective you wish, and each one comes with a line of side quests during which you’re able to unlock fun rewards and upgrades. One of those factions is the Freestar Collective, which governs the Cheyenne, Narion, and Volii systems.
Deputized is an optional side quest for the Freestar Collective. You unlock it after completing the Job Gone Wrong mission in Akila City, where you stopped the Shaw Gang bank robbery. Marshal Daniel Blake is so impressed with your work that he invites you to join the Freestar Rangers.
How To Join The Freestar Rangers
Marshal Blaketells you tospeak toEmma Wilcoxabout joining theFreestar Rangers. You’ll find her insidethe Rock at the center of Akila City. She gives you a brief rundown about the Freestar Rangers and what they do.
If you choseFreestar Collective as your factionduring character creation, you’ll have anextra dialogue optionduring the conversation with Emma.
Emma wants to evaluate your skills before handing over a Ranger badge, so she tells you topick a mission from the Mission Board.
Kill the outlaw captain on Shoza VII-c
3200 credits
Kill the outlaw gang leader on Copernicus VII-c

Rescue hostage at Pontem

Starfield’s programming sometimeschanges the names of locationsfor these Missions for different people, sowhere they send you might be different from what we have here. However,the objectives and rewards are the same.
You can accept and complete all four missions if you want, but for the sake of the quest,you are only required to complete one.
Go into the missions tab of your quest menu andhighlight one of the Freestar Collective missions, then plot a course to wherever the mission says to go.
How To Kill The Outlaw Captain On Shoza VIII-C
If you decide to complete the first mission on the list, you’ll fly to theDeserted Ecliptic Garrisonlocated onShoza VIII-c in the Shoza system.
This planet is a moon withsevere ambient cold weatheron it, so be sure to dress appropriately to avoid any negative status effects.
After you land,head towards your quest marker, dealing with Ecliptic enemies along the way. Go through the door to the right of the mountain and shoot your way through the garrison until you finda tunnel through the mountain.
This tunnel takes you up andopens up just below the building where your target is.
As you enter the tunnel,keep to the left to avoid the gasleakingout of the pipe so you don’t get lung damage.
Your target will be at the top of the tower. Keep fighting your way up,kill your target, get your reward, then leave the planet.
How To Kill The Outlaw Gang Leader On Copernicus VII-A
To collect the bounty for anOutlaw Gang Leader, set a course forCopernicus VII-ain theCopernicussystem.
This mission is a lot like the previous one: fight your way through pirates and robots and kill your target. However,it has a glitch where your target is behind a locked doorwith no way to open it.
There is a way around the glitch. Go outside andboost your way up to the top of the hab.
Walk along the edge a little bit, and you’ll soon see an opening show up, allowing you to drop down into the room and complete your mission.
Once you’ve killed the gang leader, collect your rewards (including any loot you find), then retreat to your ship.
How To Destroy The Crimson Fleet Captain At Volii
If you prefer something a little easier, this mission is for you. Take a few grav jumps to theVolii systemto destroy theCrimson Fleet Captain. Your target will be in orbit near theplanet Volii Epsilon.
Once the ship is destroyed,collect your loot and your mission rewards.
How To Rescue Hostage At Pontem
While this mission offers a smaller reward,rescuing an innocent is always a worthy mission.
A captain of theFreestar Vistahas been hijacked by Spacers and isbeing held hostage.To rescue him,set your course for Pontem in the Wolf system.
The Spacers on the ship will immediately start firing on you,but you do not want to destroy the ship.Engage in combat, but you only want todisable the ship.
Once the ship has been disabled you may board. There are about a dozen or so Spacers on board, so you’ll have tofight your way to the hostage.
When you’ve cleared the ship of all enemies,your hostage will be on the upper deck waiting for you.
Because this is aFreestar Collective ship, looting anything other than the Spacers’ bodieswill be considered theft.
Free the captain, who will be more than grateful,and you’re able to collect your mission reward.
Get Your Deputy Badge From Marshal Blake
When you have completed one or more of the Freestar Missions,go back to Akila City and talk to Emma Wilcox again. She will lead you upstairs to speak to the Marshal, and he will ask you if you want to join the Freestar Rangers.
If you accept, you will be granted the title ofFreestar Ranger Deputy. With this new role also comes:

Confront The Ruffians On Montara Luna
Your next task as the brand new deputy is to accompany Emma Wilcox to Montara Luna toanswer a distress call from a farmer at Waggoner Farm.
Set a course for Montara Luna, and land at the Waggoner Farm.Mikaela Waggoner, the owner of the farm,will be waiting to speak with you and Emma.
Mikaela is being threatened by agroup of ruffians who want to take her farm. It’s now your job, with Emma at your side, to find these ruffians and get them to back off.
Follow their boot tracks down into the canyonsbehind the farm until you find their hideout.
There are many creatures to fightin these canyons andother dangers, including mines, toxic pools, and turrets.Be on high alert, and make sure you have plenty of ammo and healing aids.
The boot tracks will eventually lead to a ravine and the ruffians’ camp.Go into the camp and confront their leader.
Unfortunately, there’s no talking them down or persuading them, andthey will attack you. Kill them all andloot the leader to get the “Job’s Done” slate.
After you’ve read the slate, give it to Emma, then fast-travel back to the farm. Inform Mikaela that she’s safe.
Emma tells you it’s time to go back to Akila City to speak to the Marshal.
