In Their Footsteps is the thirteenth quest in the main storyline ofStarfield. For the first time, you will come face-to-face with The Hunter to learn more about the truths of the universe you have been searching for this whole time.
Up till now, you’ve learned little about what Unity is and how it concerns you, the artifacts, and these new powers you’ve discovered. Why are these artifacts here? Why do they respond to you? Is there a higher power involved? Now, it’s time to sit down with your enemy and figure out what your next steps are.
Spoilers ahead if you haven’t played the quests leading up to this one.
Meet With The Hunter
Upon finishing the previous quest,Unity, you should be ready to dock with The Hunter’s ship,The Scorpius.
With The Hunter isanother Starborn called The Emissary, who you find out is the one thatattacked you near Neon after obtaining one of the artifacts.
They want to seek a truce with you, and the conversation soon turns to the topic of Unity. You learn thatUnity is a gateway that leads to alternate universes and timelines. Once all put together, the artifacts you have been collecting will help you get to this gateway.
This is when The Emissaryreveals themselves as the companion who died during High Price To Paybut from another universe. As the conversation continues, youalso learn that The Hunter is Keeper Aquilus. Or rather, a different version of him from a parallel universe.
Talk To The Hunter And The Emissary
Before leaving the Scorpius, you have the option tospeak with the two Starborna bit further.
They each havetheir own views and philosophies regarding Unity, so this is a good chance to learn more about each side, as this will begood information to have for future quests.
Once you’re done, head back to your ship. This will complete the quest and unlock two new quests:UnearthedandFinal Glimpses.
