With the right ingredients and recipes in hand, you can craft your own Chems, starting as soon as you set foot in the game’s first city. This article will guide you through the process to make sure you’re well-prepared for any challenge the game throws your way.
What Are Chems
Chems are Starfield’s answer to potions—Aid items that, alongside Food, grant you beneficial effects. Their effects range fromrestoring health, totreating negative status effects, and giving youvarious buffslikeenhanced movement speedanddamage resistance.
How To Make Chems
You’ll be able tocraft Chems at any Pharmaceutical Labs, as long as you have the recipe unlocked and the necessary ingredients. One of the first Pharmaceutical Labs can be foundin the basement of The Lodgein New Atlantis, on the planet Jemison.
You’ll be able to access The Lodge by completing the first main storyline quest,One Small Step.

To start crafting, simply begin using a Pharmaceutical Lab toopen up a crafting screen, which will show you everything you can craft with the resources that you currently have.
You’ll also eventually be able tobuild your own Pharmaceutical Labs at Outposts and on your ship. But for newer players, the one in the Lodge will work just fine!

How To Unlock More Chem Recipes
You can obtainmore Chem recipesbycompleting Pharmacology projects at a Research Station. You can find a Research Stationon the port side of your first ship, as well as at various hubs and locations in the game.
These projects willrequire materials to complete, after which your new recipes will be unlockedin the Pharmaceutical Lab.

Upgrading theChemistry skill, in theScience skill tree, will greatlyenhance the effects and performanceof your Chems.
