When you beginBaldur’s Gate 3, you’ll be presented with several ways to deal with your Mindflayer parasite. One of them is handed to you by your Githyanki companion, Lae’zel. She will tell you that you must find a creche to be cleansed of your infection.
Before you get to the creche, you’ll run into a Githyanki patrol. If you roll well on a series of checks, you can get through the encounter without a fight. However, if you roll some failures or choose to instigate a fight, you’ll be met with a challenging encounter. Here’s how to go about tackling it.

Unlocking The Quest
The quest starts when you save Lae’zel from a group of Tieflings on theravaged beach. After releasing her from the cage, she’ll tell you that her people have a cure for the Mindflayer infection, andyou must find a creche.
Add Lae’zel to your party and head to theDruid’s Grove. As you explore, you’ll come across anNPC named Zorru. Upon talking to him, Lae’zel will interrogate him, and after some intimidation, he’ll mark the patrol’s location on your map.

Before heading to the Mountain Pass, stop by a shop tostock up on greater potions of healing. Make sure the spellcasters in your party have utility spells such asHold PersonandGreaseprepared.
Finding The Patrol
Follow your quest marker to theMountain Pass. The exact location isnorthwest of theBlighted Village. Once you arrive, you won’t have to search the area too hard for signs of Githyanki. When you’re in the correct location, a short cutscene will trigger.
If you have Lae’zel with you, she’ll run off to meet with the group. Follow her to enter a conversation with the leader of the patrol.

If you anticipate a fight, this is a good opportunity to set up your ranged party members (such as your spellcasters) in strategic locations on the bridge.
Dealing With The Patrol Safely
You don’thaveto fight the Githyanki patrol. Like many encounters in Baldur’s Gate 3, you can end things peacefully. Kith’rak Voss informs you that the patrol is looking for the artifact that’s currentlyin Shadowheart’s possession.
The easiest way to end the encounter is tomake a persuasion checkto tell Lae’zel to play along. If you let the patrol know that you have the artifact in your possession, it will trigger the fight.

When you make your persuasion roll, Kith’rak Voss will also make a roll to detect her thoughts. If he succeeds and finds out she’s lying, that will also cause a fight to break out.
If you don’t have Lae’zel in your party, you can still end the encounter peacefully. You canmake a persuasion rollto ensure Kith’rak Voss that you can help him find the artifact that the patrol is looking for. Again, he will try to detect your thoughts to see if you’re lying, butyou can make a roll to push your thoughts away from him.
Don’t worry about losing experience by bypassing the fight peacefully -talking your way through the encounter will still get you some experience. The only drawback is losing the ability to loot some Githyanki equipment, but you’ll have plenty of opportunities to do that later.
Fighting The Patrol
You can choose to outright fight the patrol. If Lae’zel is in your party, she will turn against you to fight with her fellow Githyanki. That will add another combatant to an already difficult encounter.
The fight consists offour Level 5 Githyanki. Sarth Baretha is a Fighter with 75 hit points. She will attack your group with powerful sword strikes. There’s an Eldritch Knight named Gish For’reth. You’ll want towatch out for his magical attacks. The last two are Rangers that willhide in the back with crossbows.
If you haveAstarionin your party, have him enter stealth and position himself on the bridge. That will give him the advantage he needs to pick away at the group with devastating stealth attacks. Of course, you could also do this yourself, provided you’re a rogue.
You don’t want Sara Baretha to get close to your spellcasters.Position them on the bridge with yourself or Astarion. This will keep them out of harm’s way and give them an advantage. Like many fights in Baldur’s Gate 3, a good way to start the fight is with an explosive barrel and fire. You can get the same effect with the grease spell and a source of fire.
The two Rangers can quickly become a problem.Take them out before turning your attention to Gish For’reth and Sarth Baretha. If you haveHold Personprepared, you’re able to use it to keep the two fighters under control while you pick off the Rangers.
If you don’t have a way to keep the two named combatants under control, it may be a better idea to take out Sarth Baretha first. She has a massive damage output, so nipping her in the bud is a great tactic.
