Using the scanner to open up the decorate menu for your apartment is best, as it will save you time running back and forth from the decorate panel.

How Does The Decorate Feature Work?
When you open up the decorate menu, you will have a UI similar to theOutpost Buildingmenu.
On theright-hand side of the screen, you will see alist of items along with the item category and variants.

Theleft-hand side of the screenwill show you theresources requiredto build the desired item.
Sticking to utility items such as workbenchesand mission boards is a good idea before spending resources on decorative items such as furniture, as these items generally cost more resources and provide a function to your apartment.

It’s a good idea tomark the Research Projects that you want to complete in theResearch Labbefore decorating your apartment, as this willhighlight any resource or material used in the Research Project, saving you from accidentally spending the material on an object decorating your apartment.

How To Place Items In Your Apartment
Selecting an object willcreate a highlight where it will beplaced along with its rotation. If you place an object and want to rearrange its position, swap toModify Mode,select the item, and thenrotate and move it freely. Hold the delete button if you’d like to remove the object from your apartment.
To decorate your Apartment withmiscellaneous itemssuch as tools or even a microscope,drop the item from your inventoryand enter theModify Mode, thenselect the item and place it where you wish.

Unfortunately, there isno way to snap objects togetherand onto walls, meaning you’ll have to do it all by eye. This can lead to wonky placement if you don’t get it aligned perfectly.
