Lurking at the end of a dungeon in Yaesha, this boss can be quite difficult to take down on your own. Especially if you’re running on a higher difficulty as it drags you into the fight without warning. So to help you best this overgrown beast, here’s a handy guide on how to beat Kaeula’s Shadow in Remnant 2.
How To Find Kaeula’s Shadow
First off, it’s not too difficult to find the boss fight with Kaeula’s Shadow. It’s found in Yaeshaand most people will run into it as the spawn rate for it is pretty nominal.Plus it comes in two unique variants that contain separate puzzles. In this case, it’s two, plusa Wind Puzzle that also has different rewardsfor those that complete it solo or in co-op.
So there are plenty of incentives to check out this particular dungeon, aside from taking on the boss of course. Thankfullythe fight itself doesn’t change, so if you encounter it once, you’ll know what to expect on a re-roll.

The dungeon in question isKaeula’s Restand you’ll usually have to go through it in order toprogress through the campaign story in Yaesha, or if you’re running the zone inAdventure Mode. Once you reach the end of the zone there will bea ring on a stone table, make sure to reload and heal before you pick it up as when you do,a large tentacle will emerge from the ground, wrap around you, and quickly yank you into the ground. This will basicallyteleport you straight into the boss fight. So take some time to prep before this point.
The Ring in question is theTear of Kaeula. This humble-looking trinketincreases Relic capacity by two.

How To Beat Kaeula’s Shadow
The boss is pretty spongyand it’s got one particular phase in its attack cycle that can be pretty unforgiving. Plus, you need to take into account the type of ground you’re fighting on.
For example,it’s uneven and waterloggedwith a specific path laid out within it.The shallow spots are denoted with red leaves, but if you wander off this your movement speed will dramatically drop andyour evade becomes non-existent as the water is waist deep.

The boss arena is explorable before the fight. So attempt to get a general gist of the layout andwhere the best shallow spots are.
Kaaeula’s Shadow itself is a big tanky lad. It towers over you, has a long-reaching stick that can give you a pretty nasty smack, andhas none of the movement issues that you need to deal with. Also, as a Cherry on top,it periodically disappears into the ground whilst summoning several tentaclesthat can and will, surround you or block your path. They can be destroyed, but like the boss, they can take a lot of hits before slinking back under the ground.

Plus, if you don’t destroy them fast enoughthey’ll let off a big slam that’s tricky to dodgebecause of the aforementioned terrain problems. It also tracks quickly and takes a nice big chunk out of your health bar if it lands. These appear after the boss takes at least a quarter or half its health worth of damage.
The boss’s Weak Point is its glowing face, any shots to the body or limbs will still do damage, but it will be very minimal. A good tip is tohit it with elemental debuffs such as BURNING as it’s weak to fireor the Nightfall Long Gun you get for defeating theNightweaver BossasShrouded Mode can absolutely melt its health bar in big meaty chunks.

The effectiveness of Nightfall may change in the future. The developers have already nerfed the weapon substantially. Thankfully the elemental debuffs likeBURNING fromflaming weaponsare still a strong option to fall back on.
Also, whilst you may solo this boss,it’s recommended to bring a battle buddy. Another gun expedites the whole process as the boss can take a lot of punishment, plus they can draw aggro andit can really help when the tentacles appear as there are so many and they’re very tough. It’s almost impossible to destroy them all yourself.

Overall, keep a thumb ready on that evade button, make sure he doesn’t get too close with that stick of his,aim for his faceand focus on the tentacles as soon as they appear. Do all that, and the boss will fall pretty quickly.

Boss Attacks
Before closing out with the loot drops, it’s worth taking a detailed look at the types of attacks the boss is going to throw your way. They’re not particularly nice to deal with. Mainly because of the arena andhow easy it is to roll into deep water and get stuck.
The types of attacks you’ll encounter are as follows;A root tendril swipethat sends a tentacle into the ground and hits you at range,an impaling stabwith its arm, atwo-sweep combowith its big stone weapon, awave attackafter it hides in the ground that you’ll need to run from, digging into the ground to teleport and then appearing next to youand of course, the tentacle summon.

To help you remember all that, here’s a short list of the types of attacks Kaeula’s Shadow will throw out.
A lunging swipe with their tentacle arm.
Tendril Ambush
The Shadow sends its tentacle into the ground. The appendage then appears next to you and takes a swing.
A far-reaching ground wave. Run to avoid.
Teleport Dig
The Shadow digs into the ground and re-emerges next to a player.
Tentacle Summon
The Shadow disappears into the ground, summoning several tentacles that need to be destroyed before the boss re-appears.
Keep your distance anduse the large stone pillars in the roomto try and block some of its attacks. Plusthe pillar limits the available emergence spacefor the Shadow’s teleporting.

Rewards For Beating Kaeula’s Shadow
Like every boss fight in Remnant 2, your biggest incentive for taking on these fights, aside from progression, is the loot.Usually, it’s a Tome Of Knowledge, Lumenite Crystals, some Scrap, and either a Mutator or a crafting part for a new Weapon Mod or gun. Some are more powerful than others, andthe drop you get from Kaeula’s Shadow is a little odd.
Beating the boss drops, as mentioned previously, a Tome Of Knowledge, Lumenite, Scrap, andthe Twilight Dactylus. This crimson tentacle can begiven to McCabe to create the Rootlash. This unique Weapon Modlobs out an organic blob which turns into a large lashing tentacle.

This strange appendage deals30 damage on hitand alsosteals 1.5 percent of your current max health valuefrom its target to regen you. The tentacles themselves can reach pretty far, last for 20 secondsandyou can have a maximum of two of them summonedin a fight at any given time. So they’re pretty good for corralling a crowd of monsters.
The Rootlash requires 450 Mod Power to activate. So it’s a pretty cheap Weapon Mod to pop off.
