Lords Of The Fallenincludes numerous challenging bosses that you must overcome to progress in the game. Not long after completing the tutorial area, you’ll encounter your first major boss, known as Pieta, She of Blessed Renewal.
Don’t be fooled by the fact that she’s the first boss; she’s far from an easy opponent. Pieta presents a two-phase battle that demands you to learn her moves and develop a strategy to defeat her. This fight sets the tone for what to expect in the game, emphasizing the need for careful pattern recognition and strategic thinking.
Pieta, She Of Blessed Renewal Attacks
First Phase
Pieta wieldsa long holy swordas her main weapon and all her attacks revolve around it during the first phase. Let’s break it down for you.
Her first move is atwo-swing combo, whichgives her sword an extended reach. After she performs this attack,there’s a nice opportunity to land a full combo on herbefore you step back.
At times, if you’re nearby,she might extend this attack to a four-swing combo, so you need to be prepared for that as well.
When you get up close to Pieta, she might executea sweeping attack and then back awayto create some distance.
After this move, she usually follows it with this attack when she raises her weapon in the air andunleashes a straight-line beam attack.
This is probably the most troublesome move to deal with. You can either sprint to the side to dodge it or, even more effectively,dodge just as she fires the beam.
Another ranged attack she uses is whenshe calls down a holy sword to the ground, which thenreleases a linear pattern of falling swords homing in your direction.
This one is easy to avoid;simply stay out of the pathof those falling swords.
The final attack in this phase is herjump swing, whichshe uses to close the gap between you and her. Like the first attack, this move also presentsa good openingfor you to land a full combo.
Remember, the opportunities we mentioned can be used not only to attackbut also to heal when you need it.
Second Phase
The second phase of the Pieta battle cranks up the difficulty with a slew of new attacks you must keep an eye on.
First,Pieta undergoes a transformation into a four-winged knight. She executes an attack where sheretreats to the back of the arena, thenlunges forward, conjuring a cluster of swords in the air that falls down once she reaches the opposite side.
To avoid this one,position yourself either on the right or left sideof the boss fight arena.
During this phase, she can still perform hertwo or four-swing combo, offering an opportunity to inflict damage on her.
Remember, there’s oftena delay after every two attacks, so don’t rush towards her until you’re certain she’s finished her combo.
Pieta also retains hersweeping back attack,jump swing attack, andbeam attackfrom the first phase, so keep those in mind.
In this phase, Pieta summons specters that can be a nuisance. These summoned specters havefour different attacks:
Furthermore, be cautious of hergrab attack, which she typically employs when at a distance. Shepropels herself towards you, andthis attack inflicts substantial damage.
Pieta, She Of Blessed Renewal Strategy
There is no easy way to defeat Pieta; it’s all aboutseizing the right moments to strike and using your three Sanguinarix charges wisely.
In the first phase, it’s generally best tostay close to her. Her swing combo is relatively easy to evade, and it providesa prime opportunity to land some hits.
There might be times when you need to step back to replenish your stamina or heal, but be mindful thatshe’s likely to unleash her beam or linear sword attack in response.
If you’re skilled at parrying, it’s an effective way tolower her posture and make her stagger.
While she typically transitions to her second phase when her health is half depleted,occasionally, she might shift earlier, so stay alert.
When she transforms into her four-winged knight form,your best course of action is to steer clearand allow her to complete her falling swords attack. Attempting to attack her during this transformationwon’t harm her, so it’s best to step back, regain your stamina, take a deep breath, and prepare for the real showdown.
In the second phase,Pieta becomes more aggressive and agile, frequentlyflying around the arena and closing in on you. However, remember the openings we discussed after her swing combo;these are the moments you should wait for. Taking risks at other times may leave you vulnerable.
Her specters in this phase essentiallyrepeat the same attacks from her first phase, which you should already know how to handle, so don’t panic when you see them.
One particular attack to be extra careful of is when hertwo summoned specters take positions on either side, diving in a line and leaving a trail of falling swords.
They occupy a substantial part of the arena, and you’ll only have one path to move along, butPieta will still be coming for you. Blocking or even parrying her attacks is advisable because she often follows up with her swing combos.
This fight is all aboutbeing patient,so resist the urge to be greedy, as it can lead to your downfall. Stay vigilant, learn her attack pattern, and bear in mind thatmost attacks can be dodged easily.
Wait for those openingsto damage her or heal when necessary, and eventually, you will be able to defeat Pieta, She of Blessed Renewal.
