A JRPG and RPG trope is the idea that the chosen hero (or heroes) needs to go through a rite of passage before setting off, and this is also the case inSea Of Stars. Our two Solstice Warriors Valere (Moon) and Zale (Sun) spend years training at the Zenith Academy in order to master combat and magic.

Once they’re finally ready, they need to climb the peak of their home island to meet a mysterious and ancient entity known as the Elder Mist. After completing his trials, the Elder Mist will want to test your mettle himself, and here’s how to put him in his place.
Who’s The Elder Mist?
The world of Sea Of Stars is full of magic and fantastical elements of its own style which you’ll quickly become acquainted with them. The two most powerful forces are the Dwellers (Evil) and Divine Spirits (Good). The Elder Mist is one of the few remaining Divine Spirits still active in the worldand seems to be intimately connected to the order of Solstice Warriors.
His base form is that of a floating head surrounded by clouds or “Mist” that also serves as his beard. From the moment you meet him, you get the sense of how powerful he is, andhe uses his clairvoyance to aid their heroes on their journey.

The Elder Mist’s main purpose is to offer the final test to prospective Solstice Warriors. They have to prove their knowledge and skill by going through their trials and activating three specific artifacts. Once activated,he tests their might and determination by using the artifacts to take on a Boss form. This makes him look like a phantom knight complete with armor, a large gauntlet, and a sword. The only way forward is to go through him.
How To Beat The Elder Mist Boss Fight
As one of the early boss fights in the game, you’ll only have access to Valere, Zale, and Garl as your party. This is a solid setup considering the style of fighting that the Elder Mist uses.
His main attack is to hit one of your characters with his gauntletby lifting it up over their heads and then bringing it down hard on a single target. It does decent damage if it lands, butyou can time a block by pressing the button at the momentthe gauntlet reaches just above the character’s head.

His other more dangerous attack is hisCounter Slash. If you attack the Elder Mist directly, he’ll respond automatically by hitting all your characters with his sword.
The timing for blocking this can be tricky, but attempt to press the button by pressing the bottom the moment the sword starts to swing toward you. This does solid damage to your whole party, and you can’t afford to waste turns, combos, and MP on healing.

Thus, the first thing you need to do is to take out the sword, which is considered a separate target in the fight. Take advantage of all the Live Mana spheres that’ll be popping up as you attack the sword to defeat it faster.
Garl is a heavy hitter who can deal some serious damage to the sword in a couple of strikes, especially if he’s powered up with Live Mana.
Once the sword is eliminated, it will become darkened indicating that it is Inactive. This opens up the Elder Mist to wail on with all your strongest moves and all you’ll need to worry about is the gauntlet smash. However, both with and without the sword, the Elder Mist will begin charging a spell that usually has three locks on it.
They’ll almost always have a Moon or Sun lock, meaning that Valere or Zale will have to break them.Make sure to keep some Live Mana around so that you may power up either of them and break the locksin one fell swoop. If the spell is cast, it will be Healing Mist that will restore the Elder Mist for a decent amount of damage.
The sword will become active again after a few turns, so be careful if the Elder Mist decides to cast Healing Mist during that time. Rinse and repeat deactivating the sword and then unleashing your power on the Elder Mist and the boss will quickly fall.
