After completing the previous quest inBaldur’s Gate 3,you’ll be faced with one of the most exciting battle challenges in the Shadow-Cursed Lands: defending Halsin. Upon his opening of a portal, a curse for the Shadow Curse is finally within your reach.

But the Shadow Curse has a mind of its own, and you’ll need to fend off waves of its dark forces to grasp your cure and protect Halsin. It’s no easy endeavor, and you’ll need no small amount of strategy to accomplish it. But as is so often in Baldur’s Gate, you’ll get your just desserts for the effort.
Getting Started: Preparations
To begin this quest, you must firstcomplete “Wake Art Callugh.“Once the quest has finished, Halsin will tell you tomeet him on the beach outside.You can follow him or return later.
Before you interact with him at the beach, however, you’ll need toensure you have a few things squared away.

You’ll be fightinglarge numbers of undead enemies, so the best people to bring for this fight are:
Clerics, above all else, are the best to have in this fight. With their access to Turn Undead and Spirit Guardians, they’ll be a huge asset in this fight.

Ensure all your spell slots are filled.You’ll need them. Thebest spells to bringare certainly:
Your set-up should prioritize not necessarily raw damage output buthow many targets you can successfully hitat once.

When you are ready, follow the map markerat the Last Light Inn outside, down from the ship docks, and outpast the moon barrieronto the beach (Coordinates: X: -69, Y: 207).
Before attempting this, make sure one of your spellcasting characters is eitherequipped with the Moonlanternor an item has been enchanted with Daylight.

How To Defend Halsin’s Portal
After speaking with Halsin and electing to guard his portal, you’ll be tasked with defeating waves of enemies. These waves will spawn forfive rounds of combat,with the sixth present only for you to wrap up any stragglers.
There aretwo conditions for failure:
You’ll need to keep everyone away from the portal as far as possible and take out the ranged enemies firing arrows at the portal.
The best strategy here is to follow these placements:
Round One
OnRound One, most enemies will beat the base of the rock steps.Without a bright light like the Moonlantern, you won’t be able to see them.Take them out quicklybefore sending your fighters to their positions.
Round Two
Many of your enemies will bespawning from the far busheson the hill, but on Round Two and onlyRound Two, ravens and two large vines will appear.The ravens only have 1HP, and the vines are weak to Fire damage.
UseFireball and Turn Undeadto delete them all in one turn.

Round Three
Round Three will see the introduction of several beefierShadow-Cursed humanoids. One of them, a Ranger, will be firing at the portal.
Send in your Clericwith a Spirit Guardian still active and walk around to deal damage to all of them.

Your ranged supports back on the rocks will help take them out.
Round Four
ByRound Four,things are really heating up.A Wraith and a few more shadows will appear at the base of the stairsand can only be seen with the lantern. Between now and Round Five, you’ll start feeling a little overwhelmed. Don’t fear; you’re almost there.
Use Thunderwavewith your spellcaster or a similar area effect to knock any and all monsters back.Tighten your formation,closing in around the Portal while knocking off large numbers of enemies. When ready,use Turn Undeadto remove a large number of remaining enemies.

Round Five And On
AfterRound Five, enemies will no longer spawn.Sweep up anyone who has survived your onslaughter.
Combat will continue until every enemy is dead. However, after Round Five, they will no longer aim for the portal, and you’ve effectively completed your mission.

Halsin will return once everyone is gone. However, his reunion is not a happy one. If you thought the quest was over, we’re sorry to say it isn’t.You’ll need to find Thaniel’s other halfnow.
However, for your struggle, you do get a rather large bonus:Halsin will now be open to joining your party.Speak with him back at camp, and you can take him with you to continue this questline or explore anywhere else you’d prefer.
