Don’t underestimate a djinni, especially not one that’s been trapped in a cursed lamp for who knows how long. Setting him free isn’t the question, it’s how to break out of the lamp when you do. Unless you’re prepared, you’ll find yourself trapped. Here’s how to escape, with or without mischief.

Where Is The Peculiar Lamp?

When youenter the city of Baldur’s Gate, there isa shop called Sorcerous Sundries. You’ll need tobreak into the vaultto gain access toriches galore and the lamp.

The chamber withthe Peculiar Lamp is hidden behind an illusion. The wall isn’t real, and you canwalk right on throughdespite seeming like it’s impassable.Beyond the wall is a small chamberwith a single dark lamp on a pedestal.

How To Escape The Peculiar Lamp

If you run up andtouch the lamp, you’ll trigger a cutscene where you are transported inside. The resident djinn will laugh at you for touching the lamp andtake your place outside. Your party will then have the opportunity tolet the djinn go or attack.

Trying to pick up the lamp or put it in your inventory will trigger the swap, locking you inside.

If you’re smarter than the average adventurer and are familiar with djinni lamps, you’ll know better than to touch the first shiny thing you see in a wizard’s secret vault. You cansend a familiaror yourleast favorite party membertointeract with the lampfirst.

If you send in a summon, you’ll get a unique dialogue option to tell Yafeu about your brilliance. He’ll be angry that he didn’t think of that first but reward you for your ingenuity.

Summon Another Creature

If you’re prepared orhave a spellcaster on hand, anysummoning spell or scrollwill do. You cansummon a familiarto interact with the lamp, or you cansummon an elementalfrom within the lamp.

Familiars and summons include Us the intellect devourer and Scratch the dog, though you may not want to part with either of these friendly companions for the sake of a djinni lamp.

Providing another entity in the lamp will fulfill the requirement, ensuring that there is aliving creature inside the lampat all times, though eventually,your summon will disappear.

If your familiar or summon cannot interact with the lamp from outside, select the lamp and drag it like you would to move other items. This counts as moving or interacting with the lamp, which will trigger the swap.

Recruiting a Hireling in Baldur’s Gate 3

For the less-than-prepared adventurer, ascroll of Summon Quasitis inside one of the chests inside the lamp. Simplyuse the scrolland have the little creaturetake your place. Don’t feel too bad, though. It’s not like he was going to be much use elsewhere.

Use Mage Hand

You can alsouseMage Handto interact with the lamp. This will drag the magic hand into the lamp,freeing Yafeu the djinni, andsparing your partyone eternity trapped inside the lamp.

Send In A Hireling

If you’re not fond ofa particular hireling, you may send them in to take your place in the lamp. They will enter like any other party member, though you candismiss them from Witherslater at camp.

Challenge Yafeu The Djinni

You canchallenge Yafeu directlyor tell himyou have no master. The latter will lead him to believe it is a trick to get him back in the lamp, andhe will initiate battle.

Defeating Yafeu won’t grant you any rewards, and it won’t help your party members ifthey’re trapped in the lamp.
