So, carrying an arsenal of weapons is a good idea. The Microgun is Starfield’s Minigun, and what better weapon to carry than 350 rounds per minute spewing machine gun?

There are a few methods to obtaining a Microgun, whether that be early in the game or later in faction quests. The Microgun is a beast, but you don’t want to be wasting thousands of rounds of 7.77 mm without optimizing it for combat.
How To Get The Microgun
Considering that theMicrogun is a powerful heavy weapon, you won’t be able to loot and purchase it from vendors until you’re at a much higher level. However, there are a few opportunities to get this death machine fairly early into the game:
How To Steal The Microgun From UC Surplus
You canacquire the Microgun on your first visit to New Atlantis.During theOne Small Step story mission, found on display in theUC Surplus storein the Well. UC Surplus is the major weapons and equipment store in the Well.
Many weapons, spacesuits, and equipment are on display in display boxes and crates. However, snatching these items along with the Microgun is no easy task sinceAntonio Bianchi will follow youaround the UC Surplus store if heloses line of sight on you.
You won’t be able to confidently steal the Microgun without acquiring theStealth Skill,as this unlocks the sneak mechanic.You cansteal the Microgunfrom UC Surplus with as little asRank One Stealth.
The Microgun isfound on the table in the large weaponcasein the center of the room. You canopen the lid of the case to block the line of sightand then steal the Microgun.
How To Remove Stolen Status From The Microgun
Now that you have the Microgun in your inventory, you will need toremove the “stolen”status on the Microgunmarked by a red icon. If you are ever caught smuggling contraband or committing a crime, all your stolen goods will be taken as forfeit, and you’ll have to pay a fine.
You canremove the stolen statuson the Microgun byselling it to the Trade Authorityand purchasing it back.The Trade Authority is around the corner from theHouse of Enlightened and past Apex Electronics, also located in the Well.
The Microgun uses7.77mm ammo, a common ammo type found across the galaxy. However, the rate of fire is so fast on the Microgun that you will need to constantly acquire ammo. Therefore, we suggest that youoptimize yourHeavy Weapons and Ballistics Skillsto increase its damage.
How To Get The X-989 Microgun
You will need tojoin UC Vanguardbefore being able to get the X-989 Microgun.
The X-989 Microgun Exterminator is a rare heavy weapons variantof the Microgun and is found during theHostile Intelligencemission, the second to last UC Faction quest line.
During the quest, you will travel toForward Base 441in the ruined city ofLondinion on planet Toliman II in the Toliman System. During the mission introduction, you willreport to Commander Hatoum, who will give you access to aUC supply room filled with equipment and ammoto prepare foran impending Terrormorph attack.
Picking up the gear andX-989 Microgun is optional, so it’seasy to miss if you b-line the mission. In the supply room, you will find aset of Sentinel’s UC Antixeno spacesuit armor and a UC Agent. Speak to theUC Agent to be given the X-989 Microgunalong with a thousand rounds 7.77mm. Trust us, you’re going to need it. The Microgun will eat through 350 rounds per minute.
The X-989 is a superior variant of the stock variant thanks to it featuring theExterminator weapon trait. A powerful trait that increases the damage dealt to aliensby 30 percent. In addition, the X-989 Microgun comes with six weapon modifications:
It’s possible to upgrade the Rate of Fire of the X-989 Microgun further by installing theBullet Hose Internal modification, as this will increase the rate of fire to a little under700 RPMwhile alsoincreasing the accuracy and range of the Microgun.
