Blacksmiths play a pivotal role not only inLords Of The Fallenbut in almost any game you play. They are instrumental in upgrading your equipment and helping you become stronger and better equipped to face the game’s challenges. Initially, you might wonder if there is a blacksmith in the game, as one is not immediately found after reaching Skyrest, the central hub of the game.
Rest assured, there is indeed a blacksmith, but in true soulslike fashion, it requires some extra effort to access their services. Your first task is to locate the blacksmith, in this case, Gerlinde, and free her before she becomes available in Skyrest.
Where To Find Gerlinde The Blacksmith
If you want to findGerlinde, you’ll need to progress through the game until youreach Pilgrim’s Perch. Here, you’ll come acrossthe Vestige of Blind Agatha/Pilgrim’s Perch Bellroomas part of your main progression, so don’t worry about missing it.
Upon your arrival,you’ll hear the sound of hammering, indicating that the blacksmith you seek is nearby. Although you’ll spot a lift to your right, you won’t be able to access it just yet.
Gerlinde the blacksmith is situated in the lower section of this room.
Starting from the Vestige,head toward the left passageand continue until you exit the cave. You’ll notice a wooden platform to your left that you’re able to jump onto to reach the other side.
However, instead of jumping,enter Umbral,which will reveal a bridge to your right connecting the path.
Follow this path to the end whilebeing cautious of an enemy that might attempt to knock you off. At the end,use a ladder to descend to the lower section.Take the second ladderto reach the bottom of this area.
In this section, you’ll be able to spotanother ladder on the far right. After you climb it,turn right to ascend the next ladder in front of you.
At the top,while still in Umbral, you’ll seea bridge on your right that leads to the other side. Cross it, thendescend using the ladder.
If you turn around at this point, you can interact witha wooden contraption to unlock a shortcut.
Next, keep moving forward anduse the ladder to descend. You’ll see an entrance in this area,but it’s blocked by an Umbral entity.
To bypass this obstacle, you need tofind and interact with some Soulflay Items. There arethree of these items, conveniently close by.
If youlook up at the door and slightly to your right, you will be able to spotthe first Soulflay Item. You canlock onto itanduse your Umbral Lamp as you normally would to Soulflay.
To locatethe second Soulflay Item,head to the right and ascend the short bridge. Once there,look up and to the left, and you’ll be able to use your lamp onthe second Soulflay Item.
The third and last SoulflayItem is locatedbelow this area. To access it, make your way to the Umbral area on the opposite side of the door. You can reach it by usingthe Umbral bridge on your left, resembling a spinal bone.Follow this path until you reach the lower section behind the door, where you’ll findthe last Soulflay Item at the far left edge of this area.
After interacting with these three items,the Umbral entity will vanish. Return and use your lamp on the Soulflay Item to unlock the door and proceed. Drop down from the ladder, head to the right, and then drop down from a second ladder.
Before descending from the second ladder,you’ll spot an Umbral Flowerbedwhere you cangrow a Vestige Seedling.
After dropping down from the second ladder,you’ll see a lift right in front of you. This is the same lift we mentioned near the Vestige,so make sure to use it to unlock the shortcut.
While you’re at it, it’s also a good idea torest at the Vestige to exit Umbral and reset the timing on it.
From here, you’ll hear the blacksmith’s hammering even closer, andshe is just below you.
You would be able to spota ladder nearby to descend, or you cansimply jump down. You’ll find theblacksmith locked in a cage to your right, with some enemies nearby.
Exercise caution when dealing with the hounds,as hitting them from the front is ineffective due to their metal shields, and it will take two hits to break them.
However, concentrate your efforts on defeatingthe enemy with the golden shield, as defeating him will result inobtaining the Prison Cell Key.
After obtaining the key,interact with the blacksmith. She’ll recognize that you have the key to open her cell and ask you to hand it to her. After conversing with her again,make your way back to Skyrest.
Gerlinde will also make her way back to Skyrest, and you can find her bytaking the stairs up to the right from the Vestige, leading to the separate room where it was once empty.
