The Guild Artisan Background, Explained
During the character creation process, you’re able to choose from a wide array of backgrounds. These backgrounds grant youtwo skill proficiencies.
They also provideunique dialogue optionsand influence how NPCs treat your character.
Guild Artisans are individuals whose skill in a certain craftearned them the respect and membership of mercantile guilds. They gain theInsightandPersuasionproficiencies.
Insight
Base Ability Score: Wisdom
Insight is commonly used toread people and situations, including to detect lies, predict someone’s intentions, and glean conversational clues from body language, speech habits, and changes in mannerisms.
Persuasion
Base Ability Score: Charisma
Persuasion is commonly used toinfluence othersthrough tact, pleasantries, or good social graces. This can help your character make requests and inspire others to act in their favor.
How To Get Inspiration As A Guild Artisan
As a Guild Artisan, your character will most often become inspired when negotiating deals withmercantile NPCs, as well asrepairing and discovering new crafts.
You can only havefour Inspiration pointsat a time, after which you’ll only receive experience points for hitting these goals. Be sure touse them up before hitting the cap.

Rescue Oskar from the Zhentarim.
The Zhentarim Hideout can be found just to thewest of Waukeen’s Rest, hidden inside a barn. That said, one wrong move can find you on the receiving end of many, many smokepowder barrels. Once inside, you’ll be able to negotiate with the Zhentarim agents topurchase or free their painter slave,Oskar.

In Working Order
Fix the elevator within the Zhentarim Hideout.
Deeper within the Zhentarim hideout mentioned above, you’ll be able tofind an elevator that leads down to the Underdark. The key to activate it, however,can only befound on the Zhentarim agents.
That said, the Zhents will be pretty angry to see you poking around the elevator, so you’ll probably find yourself looting it off of their dead bodies anyway.
