How To Unlock Gardening

Gardening and its related skill are unlocked during thetutorial quest Gardening 101.

This quest is given to you byBadruuduring the main quest,Learning the Ropes, and it introduces you to gardening as a whole.

It also provides you with your starter gardening tools,a Makeshift Hoeand a Makeshift Watering Can, four Carrot Seeds, four Onion Seeds, andtwo soil plotsto start off with. Completing it alsorewards you with one Wheat Seed.

How To Buy Seeds From Zeki

As you garden and harvest crops, you’lloften need to replant themin order to start the process all over again.

When you need more seeds, there are two main ways to obtain more:Zeki’s General Storeand theSeed Collectorcrafter.

Zeki’s General Store offers a selection ofalmost every seedin the game, but you’ll be paying Gold for each packet. All seed types are available initiallyexcept for Spicy Pepper Seeds, which requireGardening level six.

Zeki’s Wondrous Machinealso hasa low chanceof dropping sets of seedswhen giving it Zeki’s Lucky Coins.

How To Obtain Seeds From The Seed Collector

The other main method of obtaining seeds is via theSeed Collector,whose recipe can be purchased fromBadruu’s Gardening Guild Storeuponreaching Gardening level two.

The Seed Collector takessets offully grown, harvested cropsand turns them back into seed packets after a harvesting process, and generallydoubles, triples, or quadruples seedsobtained.

You can alsooccasionallyobtain seeds whentilling soil or harvesting maturing crops, and some quests reward them, such as Gardening 101 for example.

How To Get More Soil Plots

After your first two Soil plots, you’ll likely want more to expand, which willincrease your profitsand theamount of crops you can grow and harvestat one time.

In total, you can havenine Soil plots, with seven of them being purchased. To get more, you’ll need to buy them fromBadruu’s Gardening Guild Store. You don’t need to level Gardening up to get more, buteach one purchased increases the pricefor them.

How To Till Soil

Before you plant any seeds, you’ll need totill the soil.This can be done with a Makeshift Hoe orany of its upgrades:the Standard Hoe, the Fine Hoe, or the Exquisite Hoe.

All hoes till the soil at an equal speed, but each upgradeincreases the amount of area you till at one timeand the durability.

Select any Hoefrom your tool radial wheel, thenhold the interact button over untilled toil, and you’ll begin the process. Each tile will need to becompletely tilledin order to be able to plant seeds there. Occasionally as you till soil, youmay find buried items.

Possible buried item finds include Copper Ore, Iron Ore, Silver Ore, Flint, Carrot Seeds, Brightshrooms, Plant Fiber, and Stone.

How To Plant Seeds

After the soil has been tilled, you’re ready to plant seeds and water them. To do this,put any seeds you want to plant on your action bar.

Interact with itusing left click, and you’ll go into aplacing modesimilar to putting down furniture. Each soil plot hasnine squareson it andeach squarecan haveone seed planted. Each time you go to plant a seed, you’ll see apreview of the fully grown cropwhich shows you where the seed will be planted andhow many squares it will take up.

Most crops will take up one square butBlueberry Bush Seeds and Spicy Pepper Seedstake upfour squaresin a plot.Apple Tree Seedstake upnine squaresin a plot.

How To Water Crops

Once a seed is planted, you’ll see atransparent bar above it. You’ll need to use the Watering Can topour water on it until that bar is filled.

If thebar is full, the plant is considered fully watered, but if it isn’t full,the plant won’t grow. Crops will need to be wateredonce a dayand their water levelresets at six am.

Select the Watering Canfrom your tool radial wheel andhold down left clickto pour water. After watering a certain amount of plants, you’ll also need torefill your watering can, which can be done atany body of water, such as the pond on your housing plot.

Like the Hoe, your Watering Can hasthree upgrades to its past Makeshift: the Standard Watering Can, Fine Watering Can, and the Exquisite Watering Can. Each upgrade increases theamount of plants watered simultaneouslyand increases theamount of water held, as well as the durability.

How To Weed Plants

Each day, your plants havea small chance to grow a weedon them unless they have either WeedBlock Fertilizer on them or the Weed Prevention crop buff. Plants with weeds on themwill not continue to grow and cannot be watered. Weeds can beremoved, and in return you’ll get oneKnapweed.

Knapweedis sometimes awanted weekly itemfor characters likeNajuma, and is a liked item forChayne and Reth. Weeding plants also count towards theWeed Whacker accomplishments.

Despite being a junk item, Knapweed isworth 10 Gold. Early on, saving and selling weeds can providesmall amounts of Goldas you work up to larger profits.

How To Get And Apply Fertilizer To Plants

Alongside crop bonuses, you’re able to also applyFertilizerto your garden toprovide positive effects to a cropand make your Gardening easier. Like with planting seeds, you’ll need to have iton your action bar,scroll onto it, thenleft-click to activate placing mode.

There arefive types of Fertilizer availablein the game: QualityUp Fertilizer, HydroPro Fertilizer, SpeedyGro Fertilizer, WeedBlock Fertilizer, and HarvestBoost Fertilizer. Each type provides abuff to a single plot square, andmultiple Fertilizers of a single typecan be stackedon a plot square to lengthen the effectuntil it runs out.

Plot squareswith Fertilizer on themwill haveseveral large, pink ovals on themand those withmultiple stacked Fertilizerson them willglow a light pink and have a circular effect that appears periodically.

Crop buffs and Fertilizer thatshare the same buffcannot be stacked,and only one will count.

For example, if you put QualityBoost Fertilizer on a Tomato Plant and have Rice planted next to it, the Tomato will only haveone Quality Up effect active.

How To Activate Crop Buffs

Even if you don’t have any Fertilizer, you can still make Gardening easier via the use ofcrop buffs. Each seed type you plant has itsown buffthat it can apply to cropsplanted directly next to it.

For example, plantingWheat or Ricenext to another plant would give it theHarvest Boost buff, whichincreases the amount of crops harvestedfrom the mature plant.

Like Fertilizer, these buffs canreduce the need to water plants, increase crops harvested, or boost the quality of a crop.
