In most life sim games, you’ll likely be doing a lot of gardening, andPaleo Pinesproudly carries on that tradition. Growing crops is one of the main ways you may make Gold, and they can be used to as both a treat for your befriended dinos, or fed to befriend new ones. You can even grow crops just to cook with, like Cauliflower or Tomatoes.
All this is possible through Gardening, but Paleo Pines mixes it up greatly with the addition of Dinosaurs and the ways they can help you on your farm. In this guide, we’ll not only show guide you on how to garden in general, but also tell you how your Dinosaur friends can help out.

How To Unlock Gardening
You get yourfirst seedsby clearing the debris in front of your house during the arrival, but gardening is unlocked after you’vecompletedthe tutorial missionSettling In.
During it, you’llreceive a set of toolsfor gardening, and you’ll also be able topurchase more seedsfrom Granny Agami. OnceMarlo brings you homeand helps you learn about pens, you’re free to start gardening.

Granny Agamiwill also provide you with an extra tenCarrot seedsif youspeak with her.
How To Obtain Seeds
There are afew waysto obtain seeds: purchasing them fromGranny Agami, receiving themfrom noticeboard quests as a reward, purchasing them fromLilli, and Tender dinosaurs.
Granny Agami is located inPebble Plaza, and she sells a variety of seeds, such as Carrot and Potato seeds. Her stock will beexpandedas youunlock new areas, and what she sellschanges from season to season.

Somenoticeboard quests, picked up from the noticeboard in eitherPebble Plazaor inArcheo Pelago, will reward you with arandom amount of seeds, usually between three and six.
Once youunlock Ariacotta Canyonand can travel toArcheo Pelago, you unlock another merchant,Lilli, who has anexpanded stock of seeds, and her shop stockchanges every few days.

If you have aTender dinosaurharvesting crops using the Produce Basket, they alsohave a chancetodrop seedsfrom whatever they harvest.
Occasionally, seeds will blow onto your farmon windy weather days, butonly Carrot and Potato seedscan be found this way.

How To Till Soil
Crops need to be planted in tilled soil, and you may make it bytilling the groundwith yourHoe. Tilled soil can be made onany part of your farmexcept for the region closest to your home.
Equip your hoein your hand by eitherselecting it from your inventoryorcycling through your inventorywith themiddle mouse button(PC) orshoulder buttons(console).

You’ll see awhite outline in the cornersof the square you’re facing if you’re able to turn into tilled soil, and ared outline if you can’t.
Dinosaurswith theTiller skillare alsocapable of tilling large amounts of soilfor you quicker than doing it with a hoe, and these include theStyracosaurus,Centrosaurus, andTriceratops.

To have one of them till the land for you, they’ll need to bea Helperandhave a Saddle equipped. After that, you canride themand thenhold the use button, andthey’lltill the land in a straight lineas they move forward.
Tilled soil can even beinside a dinosaur pen, though this may give you issues with giving them a proper biomeunless you add enough biome-specific furniture, such as Sleeping Valley Rocks or Dapplewood Wild Bushes.

Ifno seedis planted in tilled soil formore than one to two days, the tilled soil willrevert to regular ground, and you’ll have to re-till it.
How To Plant Seeds
Like tools, Seeds can beequipped to your hand.Approachany tilled soilyou’ve made andpress the Use buttonwith a seed equipped toplant it.
Onlyone seedcan be plantedper one squareof soil.
Forberry bush seedsandfruit tree seeds, you’ll need touse your shovelanddig a holefor them. Holes can be dug inany square of your farmlike with tilled soil, and you canrepeat the same planting processfor regular seeds as you may with berry and fruit seeds.
As you crops grow, they’lloccasionally grow Weedswhich you’llneed to removein order for them to keep growing. This is done byinteracting with themif you see adark green plant at the baseof a crop.
How To Water Plants
Using the Watering Canworks like other farming tools: equip it to your hand, and you’ll see awhite outline in the cornersover tilled soil that hasn’t been watered. Press theUse buttonand you’ll water the square.
Your Watering Can onlyholds 20 squaresworth of water, and you’ll have torefill it periodicallyat awater pool, such as a Small Pond or Medium Pond.
Dinosaurs can alsohelp you with watering. Dinosaurs with theWaterer skillcanapproach any size water pool, and fill their mouths up with water withthe Use button.
Approach any tilled soilyou want to water, press the Use buttonagain, and the Dinosaur will spray andwater a portion of the farmlanddepending on their direction.Regardless of size, Waterer Dinosaurs will generally waterbetween ten and 15 squaresper mouthful.
How To Obtain Fertilizer
Crops can grow fine in regular tilled soil, but the key toproducing star-quality cropsis the use ofFertilizer.
There arethree typesof Fertilizer –Soft, Firm, andSticky– and you’ll primarily be obtaining Fertilizer fromscooping your Dinosaur’s poop.
Each Dinosaurproduces acertain type of poop, either Soft, Firm, or Sticky, andscooping it with your shovelwill give you the corresponding type of Fertilizer.
You can check what sort of Fertilizer/Poop that a Dinosaur produces bychecking the species' journal entryor checkingtheir profile in your journal, under the cerulean blueMy Dinosaurs tab.

Fertilizer can also be obtained from one ofthree types of compost binsyou canfind and repair on your farm:
Each compost bin takesfive Wood to be repaired, and you candeposit Weedsinto all three of them. Two Weedsmakestwo Fertilizer, and it takes afew hours of in-game timefor the composting to complete, depending on how much you make at once.
How To Use Fertilizer
Fertilizer, like seeds or a tool, can beequipped in your handlike seeds or a tool, and it can be placed on any tilled soilas long as it is empty, or the crop on it is onlyin the seed, seedling or sprout stages.
Fertilizer canonly be placed on crops. Bushes and Fruit Treesdo not require Fertilizeror watering to grow.
Equip it,approach any tilled soil, and you’ll see awhite outline in the four cornersof the square.
Thewhite outlinemeans that the soilcan have Fertilizer placedon it, while ared outlinemeans that the soilalready has fertilizer on it, or that the plant hasgrown too muchfor fertilizer to be added.
Each cropin the game prefers aparticular type of Fertilizer/Soil type, and putting the preferred Fertilizer type on the cropgreatly increases the chanceof producing astar-quality crop, whichsells for more.
you’re able to check whatFertilizer a crop prefersby checking itsentry in your journalunder thegreen Seasons tab.
How To Automate Your Farm
While your farmcannot be completelyautomated, many of the processes can be done automatically by gettingdinosaurs with the Tender skilltohelp with planting seeds, harvesting crops, and watering plants.
Dinosaurs with the Tender skill include:the Coelophysis, Psittacosaurus, Microraptor, Oviraptor, Troodon, Archaeopteryx, Compsognathus, Dimetrodon, Deinonychus, Protoceratops, Scelidosaurus, and the Velociraptor.
AnyDinosaur with the Discoverer skillwill alsohave the Tender skill, as both of these areexclusive to small dinosaurs.
As you progress through the game, talking with Avery, the leader of a dinosaur troupe and the Shenanigan holiday, andcompleting his quests will allow you to obtain the placeable items that enable small dinosaurs to do farm tasks: theSeed Pot,Produce Basket, and theWater Bowl.
Each quest he gives will involve himgiving you the prototype for the itemand instructing you on its use, and can be completed bysuccessfully assigning a small dinosaurto the pot, basket, or dish.
This is done by getting the dinosaur’s attention with theYoohoo call, thenapproaching one of the three itemsyou want them assigned to. TheWait Here call will changeinto Help Me With Planting, Harvesting, or Watering (depending on the item), and blowingthree small blue noteswillassign them to it.
Using small dinosaurs toharvest your cropscanprovide you with bonus seedson occasion.
Initially you only have the small size available, butafter each questis completed,Marlowill sell theMedium and Large sizes.
