You’ll grow to love the clunky piece of machinery that overheats and runs out of power more than you expect. Before you become outpost and extractor savvy later in-game, you’ll need to get acquainted with your handy cutter. Whenever you explore a planet, have it ready to go so you can collect new resources every step of the way.

What Is A Cutter?

A cuttercan be found early in-gameas part of your work with Argos. You’ll have to pick up a cutter and begin working. In this mini-tutorial, you’ll learn how tomine different materialsfrom the mines and planets you’ll explore throughout the game.

The cutter can also beused as a weapon, though not a very good one. In a pinch, itworks like any other laserwould. Itwon’t ever run out of ammo, so it’s a good idea tokeep one on hand for emergencies.

It runs on energy instead, so once you reach zero, you’ll need towait a few secondsfor it to charge back up. It’s not often noticeable whenrunning between mineral deposits.

Where To Find A New Cutter

Sincespace is limited in your ship and inventory, it’s possible you sold it the first chance you got or dropped it for more valuable loot.

If youmisplaced or sold your cutterbefore you realized your love (or need) for resources, you can always buy another one.

Shepherd’s General Store in Akila City in Starfield

If you’re carrying too much, you can always offload extra equipment like the cutter onto your follower.

This way, you don’t have to worry about losing it and needing another one.

Heller’s Cutter in Starfield

Head over to theCheyenne systemandland in Akila City. Once you leave the spaceport, turn left to reachShepherd’s General Store.

You canbuy a brand-new cutterto resume your progress and exploration. It’ll cost youa few hundred credits, but that’s nothing compared to thewealth of resourcesyou can collect later with it.

Where To Find Heller’s Cutter

If you’re short on credits or prefer finding things for free, you can head back to theArgos Extractors Mining OutpostonVecterain theNarion system.

From the landing pad,go to the airlock on the right. Flip the switch to open the door and head inside.Follow the hallway to the rightand stop right past the first doorway. Heller’s cutter will besitting in a containerjust waiting for you to collect it.

While Heller’s cutter won’t mine any faster than the standard model, it does do +20% damage against robots.
